trying to find info on the TCU site about the upcoming opponent they list purdue as the early favorite

well I'm glad someone is confident in us. I'm not. TCU hasn't looked like world beaters either though. If we play clean and don't hurt ourselves we could have a good day. Not anything I'm putting money on.

I just found that Purdue is -2 on Bovada and I couldn't pass it up. It's 10:40 am on 9/9 and I think it'll be interesting to see where the spread goes. I hope Sindelar is fine.

Yeah I saw -2 last night. Figured it would be pretty close to a pick. TCU has the better recent history but hard to tell how good they presently are. Balance that with the home field and Purdue on the rise.

Purdue is normally bad against the spread. Purdue player better against Vandy, but injuries are a concern and Purdue just doesn’t have the depth to deal with injuries. Can OL stay healthy? Can our DBs still be effective as they continue to play banged up? Sindelar going to the medical tent is concerning.

I wouldn’t touch this game. I expect Purdue to win and cover but I’m worried that is fan brain and not rational brain.

Looking at the box score from their opener, it looks like it was pretty sloppy. The Frogs may have been shaking off some rust. Arkansas-Pine Bluff is FCS from the SWAC I believe, so this really should have been a cakewalk. They were favored by something like 50 and only won 39-7.

TCU is playing the 2-QB game. Alex Delton is a grad transfer from Kansas State. Max Duggan is a freshman. Delton started but both played quite a bit. Duggan's numbers are better but I have no idea how the game flow might have been going when each was in there. TCU fumbled SEVEN times, but only lost 2. They picked off APB twice. TCU also kicked SIX field goals, the longest of which was from 38 yards. So a lot of RZ trips and not great success once they got there. 5 different guys had 5 or more carries, and they totaled 200 even on the ground. Delton was their leading rusher. Threw for 284. Looks like their best receiver is Trevontae Hights, who had 8 catches for 108. In 3 previous years he had a total of 6 catches for 219 yards!

Yes Trevontae Hights is our best receiver. Don't worry about Jalen Reagor. Way overrated. Won't be a threat at all.

Do I sense a little sarcasm and bitterness?? It's OK, we'll give him some respect. I'm sure he's a good receiver too...

Raegor is an exciting player. Kind of a poor man’s Rondale Moore. Will be fun to see such dynamic playmakers on the same field.

Likely no McCann or Neal. Sindelar seems likely but without him I wouldn’t be taking Purdue giving any points. I think Purdue should win, but too many variables to touch this game.

Was reading the TCU message board. Really confident in their D. They believe they'll drop 7 back into coverage, shut down our passing game completely, and the other 4 guys will "lock" down our running game with no problems. All of this while playing on Purdue's home field. And,, in so many words, said that Raegor would be as good as Moore if they threw to him as many times. Talk about delusional...

Even against the best defensive secondary we played last year (Mich St), we still put up 277 yards passing. And I can guarantee you that Mich State was a better defensive team than TCU is today.

Sad I was worried about covering the -7 last week after our nice cushion early. If anyone has an insight/gut feelings about this week let me know. Most likely will venture down to the casino and throw money on them again though haha

From their message board. This person might be a little surprised when David Bell and Amad Anderson start abusing their secondary...

"They have a ton of question marks. Imagine having Reagor and very little else..That’s the Purdue offense going into the season to go along with a bad defense. I don’t care how creative and smart Brohm is, if we loose that one we probably aren’t even bowl game material."

Yeah they're 29th in votes. It's a good team and a good program with a very good defensive-minded coach. It will take a hell of an effort by our guys to win. Zero reason to take them or anyone else on our schedule lightly. Let's save all the chest-thumping for after the game if we can pull it out.

As for dropping 7 in coverage on every play, I think Patterson's a little too smart for that.

Indeed.
TCU has 12 top 25 finishes this century. Purdue has 2.
This is a very, very good program under Patterson. Beating them would be akin to beating Wisconsin, MSU, or PSU.

This isn't about chest thumping. I have a ton of respect for TCU football and how good they've been. I was simply pointing out the total lack of respect their fans are giving our team. There is more talent than just Rondale Moore, and their going to find that out.

Seems that happens a lot and then the team is shocked when another player torches them.

If we somehow get even a small amount of a run game going, we should cover the spread and then some. That isn't me being cocky or arrogant, it's just how things have gone for us in the past.

I say let the under estimate us, we thrive as a Spoilermaker.

Stick, I have a question on our DB's, since I could not go to the Vandy game. Did Mackey and Major play most of the CB snaps, or did Cory Trice and maybe Cam Allen play much? They both seemed to be coming on strong, in camp. I know that Smiley got some PT, when I saw some replays; but I think this was mostly in nickel coverage. Also, did Graham and Grant play much at the Safety's? Guess I really want to see us cultivate some depth at the DBs.

I thought Mackey and Major played the majority of the game. At least it seemed that way. I haven't seen any snap counts yet. Allen played some. He got announced as having a new number which I thought was odd. Listed as #10 but was wearing #18 without a name on the back. Graham played normal starter's snaps, but I don't know how much Grant played. I guess he got a new # also, 26? So sometimes it's tough to tell who's out there between 26, 27 and 29.

The thing that stuck out to me from the stands was how tall Graham and Allen are. It's nice to have that kind of size in the secondary.

I must have missed the news that Mackey and Major were hurt during the week. They seemed to play normal snaps but then when I watched the BTN Tailgate show Sunday morning on DVR they talked about how they might not play.

I got TCU +3 and if line moves to -4 or more I’m trying to middle the **** out of this one

Why would you want to do that? If Purdue wins by 4, wouldn't you lose both bets? It's not like a casino would give you special odds to middle a bet.

He is saying he would bet pu plus 4 or 5 in the second bet and if it ends up being a 1 or 2 point game either way he wins both bets

If it's a 3 point game or less either way he wins both bets. If either team wins big he wins one and loses the other. I think there's a miscommunication on the lines. By -4 he means TCU -4. He bets Purdue +4 in that case after betting TCU + 3.

I get what you are saying on line swings, but let's just walk through the example. If I bet $11 dollars to win $10 (standard -110 bet), I would need to bet $22 and I could win $20 to hit on both bets. That's only if the game ends in a very small window. If I win one bet and lose one bet, I actually come out behind (You bet $22 in total and only collect $21 from your winnings). So why expose yourself where your money is in conflict with a very small chance to win both bets?

You're risking very little (juice) to win double on one game. Yeah it's rare but your downside is so small. I don't gamble much on individual games so I don't look to take advantage of it really ever, but it's a common sports gambling theory.

I did this with the NC game 2 years ago. Had the over very early and then at one point and the O/U swung pretty big (like 8/9 points) so I took the other side when it went up and basically had a 9 number range where I would win both (and big) and would only be out the vig on one if I didn't. Turned out it hit square in the middle of my range, won both and was happy.

Poster is trying to do the same with the score....but it would mean it needs to be a close game. Down 4 starters....I don't think it's going to be that close.

Basically I’m getting 10-1 odds that it will be in that 7 point window.

I either lose 100 or win 1000. Definitely adds to excitement

TCU was less than impressive (at least offensively) in their only game to date. With Sindelar, Purdue wins and covers. But I would sit him this week out of caution. After blowing the Nevada game, the conference is really all that matters for the Boilers at this point. Whoever plays QB will get hit by the Frogs, often. They always have a fast, aggressive, well coached defense.

Full disclosure, I'm a Kentucky grad/fan living in Fort Worth. TCU is my second favorite team. But I grew up in western KY and have followed Sindelar since he was a Soph in HS. So if he plays, I'm for Purdue.

Fair assessment. If Plummer is competent at all in the pass game I think his mobility actually helps us and gives us a shot in this game. We need a lot of quick passes, draws (not with the QB as heavy) and misdirection (speed option with TE draw pitch under) to get the run game going. If we have 4 good TEs....why not use them? I think going 5 wide, motioning Moore into the backfield more will help keep Ds on their toes.
