I think we crush them, in the 91-73 range.Opened at -10 early money on PU moved it to 10 1/2. I'm staying away from this one. I'm going to be at the game and I just want to enjoy it and not be worried about point spreads.
O/U is 150 1/2. Opened at 149 and early over money moved it.
Boiler Up!!
Agree on this. Plus a rivalry game with a chance to spoil things on our home court. IU is going to throw everything they have at us.Won't touch it but the gun-to-my-head pick is to take the points in the rivalry game. Only 4 of IU's 13 losses have been by double-digits.
we played like dog doo at their place and still won by 5. I like our chances to cover.Agree on this. Plus a rivalry game with a chance to spoil things on our home court. IU is going to throw everything they have at us.
Honestly I think the rivalry aspect is overplayed. Their only player of any significance from instate is Blackmon, and he isn't much of a vocal leader. It's fun for the fans, but the significance of this game is their last chance for a much much needed big road win.
Both teams will be amped by the electric atmosphere. If IU can start out hot, then I think they hang around for awhile. If not this one could be similar to their game at Michigan.
I'll split the difference. Purdue by 15.
Here's how IU gets to >70. We're up 85 to 62 and CMP puts in the walkons and Spike with ~2 minutes to go. IU proceeds to score 10 quick points against our scrubs (as has almost everyone who plays against them this year).I feel better about the -10 than the O/U of 150. Even if we score 80 I don't think IU can reach 70. Edit: I guess I'm saying I would take the under.
IU has a lot of inside players ot throw at Purdue as well as the known perimeter game players. If Purdue can get out and lead by double digits with 8 minutes to go...IU could fold, but if IU stays close...teh pressure mounts on PurdueI mean, a rivalry game is a rivalry game. It still gets hyped up, they get asked about it, the students talk about it around them, etc. Doesn't matter if you grew up personally affected by it.
That being said, IU has the potential to be a bad match-up for us. They can rebound really well and have some size - so it's not a walk in the park for us match-up wise. Obviously they are incredibly streaky, so hopefully we can at least keep them in check and not play horribly ourselves.
These are big, high pressure games for us - how you play in these start to matter this time of year.
I was thinking about this, too. Hartman would have been their emotional leader on the floor if he was healthy.Honestly I think the rivalry aspect is overplayed. We are gonna play well tonight after not playing particularly well the past two games. That plus senior night plus rivalry game plus insane crowd equals a cover. Purdue by 16
We've been smoked at Mackey against some good IU teams - it was still a great home court advantage. The better team that shows up that night will win. Now, crowds can help pick a team up to play a bit better - or can rattle the opposing team (or help influence a ref), but it's all a toss-up.
Also, not to discredit our seniors, but considering only one of them plays remotely, it's not going to be a big thing.
Overall, people make a big deal about storylines - but they often do not come true (it's like when there's 1 star player vs. 1 star player who do not play the same position, they aren't facing eachother directly so the player who does better is not necessarily on the winning team).
Purdue just needs to show up, play under control (i.e. don't get overhyped by the crowd) and play their game. Gotta stay out of foul trouble, not get sloppy with the ball, etc.
taking off in about 30 minutes, Hope teh Boilers reach a goal...Yes....I would like to see the Boilers defend the three-point arc and try to keep Indiana players off the offensive glass....and as always.....limit the turnovers. I also agree about not getting over-excited and out of control from the crowd energy, which I expect will be considerable. Use the intensity but under control.....easier said than done. Patience and discipline at both ends of the floor, and I like Purdue's chances.
