I looked up our predictive rank today on teamrankings.com, it has us listed as number 6 and with iu losing 2 of their last three as number 25. Agree? Disagree?
Yeah I agree with that, I could see us being that high though if we go undefeated in non conference, maybe even higherIt will be be interested in seeing how high they get. #6 seems to high. I can see us being 12 or so.
I think so far in the early season no team has looked clearly superior to us. I'd say we will be ranked around 12th next week and if we win the games we will be favored in before conference games begin we will be top 5 by the start of big ten.Do you guys see more than 5 teams that are currently clearly superior to us now?

All I care about is where we are in Mid March. Ratings now are meaningless, especially with we have already played.I looked up our predictive rank today on teamrankings.com, it has us listed as number 6 and with iu losing 2 of their last three as number 25. Agree? Disagree?
I am not sure ESPN is clueless about this team but rather taking the stance (as they have for years) of prove it to me by making a Final Four. Let's be honest, there are plenty of Boilermakers out there who feel snake bitten in both FB and BB and wonder when, if ever, they can get over the hump and make real national waves. I think the media are no different and are hesitant to shower praise on a team that may make them look foolish. That said, there is something special about this team that we fans can see and feel, and if they win a few more without any losses the "pundits" will quickly jump on board and start downing the kool-aid.I don't want a huge jump I love when we get slept on by the experts and pull of "upsets". ESPN is the worst with us they have no knowledge of our team.
I still don't think MSU's front line will be any match for ours.Have to admit I'm shocked MSU is so good. Lol they didn't need biggie
As people like to say, just win and everything will take care of itself, but the thing is we will not go undefeated. How many losses we will have come tourney time is anyone's guess, but that positive feedback loop you mention is precisely why you want to start and stay highly ranked. Helps mitigate how far you drop later in the season when you get the inevitable loss. Of course if you go the season with 2-3 losses then you are a 1 seed and need not worry about any of this stuff!I agree I like being ranked high for recruiting. High-level players could give us a look when they would not have otherwise. Players with Purdue already on their lists of potential schools might move us higher on those lists.
Also, maybe someone would know: is there an inherent advantage to being ranked, even early, when it comes to NCAA seeding, as long as a team is winning? It improves strength of schedule for our opponents, and when we beat an opponent, it is a "good" loss for them, which doesn't knock them down as much, which in turn helps our own SoS. It seems like there may be a positive feedback loop like that from being ranked high, but of course we still need to keep winning games.
