I think BSU will put on a full court press for Brock Spack. It would be a close move for him and wait out Morgan's retirement for two years, have a +.500 record, and get a shot at Purdue. Not sure if he jumps at it, but the Cardinals will be interested.

Morgie bear won't make it to 2017.

What happened to their Coach?
In a surprising move, in my opinion, Pete Lembo left to go to Maryland as an assistant. Maryland must be ponying up for Lembo (made $500k plus at BSU) or he was itching to leave. A story came out after the fact that Lembo was upset with the lack of commitment to the program, supposedly Ball State is last in MAC in funding. Spack is making about $300k at Illinois State.

first off, enough w/ the infatuation of Spack. In regards to Lembo, what I heard from some Lehigh (used to coach there) people is that he and his wife are from that area, both G'Town grads, so they wanted to get back there and also you're right about his dissatisfaction w/ Ball U 's under funding. On a side note, he always reminds me of the one co-star in Office Space.

I am not infatuated with Spack, nor saying he should be the HC here. I do feel he would have done a better job than both post-Tiller hires. I would bet my house he could do better than 6-30. Just saw this move as a possible landing spot for a former Purdue player and coach.

I have nothing against Spack, I just wish we would break away from the past and hire new, young blood. I agree his record would have been better than 6-30, maybe 12-18 . I like him as a DC but would like us to think outside the box.

Purdue won't think outside the box. We usually don't. Hazell was and that has been a dud. Looking elsewhere, Versyp and Painter are both Purdue alums. Doug Schreiber (baseball)is a Purdue alum. I am sure there are others. Expect the next AD to have Purdue ties as well. It is just the Purdue way of thinking.

This doesn't make much sense to me.. I have a hard time believing how Ball State could be considered a step up in any way from ISU. Bloomington IL really isn't significantly further from West Lafayette than is Muncie. Illinois traditionally has better and deeper HS talent, and unless the money is ridiculous , there is no advantage personally for Spack (who grew up in Illinois, BTW) ...

You do know Ball State is an FBS school and Illinois State is an FCS, correct? Pay may double going to a place like Ball State. Games televised. Illinois State is in a good spot and a good situation for FCS programs.

Ok fair enough ...I didn't realize BSU was FBS, but given what you said about Lembo and the lack of commitment to football in Muncie, it's hard for me to see what Ball State can give him that he doesn't already have at Illinois State.

Of course, money changes everything, and making this move and succeeding at it would cement a pretty solid reputation for Brock as a program-builder.

I think if he wants to coach in the Big Ten/Big 12 he will need to get a few years at a MAC to make the jump. Other than Purdue (Danny Hope) most schools don't hire a guy from FCS.

I think if you check Spack was making as much at Il. State.

Tressel went from fcs to Ohio state.

It happens, but the coach should be a lot better than hope was
