Hearing a Power 5 football program will announce tomorrow they are opting out this season.

Any feel for who it might be? I’m thinking West Coast, California . . . UCLA.

it would have to be a school that cares more about people's lives than money. My guess is it would be a school that has already announced their first semester will be virtual. CAL , Stanford and UCLA would be logical choices. although a school on the east Coast in a hot spot wouldn't surprise me. Does UCONN count as a power 5 ? they already canceled.

It definitely won't be any school in Texas, OK, Missouri, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee , Georgia or Florida. the Florida governor believes college sports are more important than academics.

Nah, it will be a school that has a multitude of high level liberal donors that is going to opt out. Has nothing to do with player's lives. You're extremely naive to believe that. At this point, it's all about either politics or money...

0.01% of all fatalities, straw man.

And those are immunocompromised.

I realize facts don't matter to you, it's just emotion, but that's what it is.

If you cared about lives more than sports, you would lobby for all collegiate sports to be discontinued. If even ONE LIFE was saved, it would be worth it.

EDIT: The math is .001, or 0.1%.

And you are too blind to see that is what I’ve been lobbying for these past 5 years! I’m not a fan of what has become of college sports where $$$ dictates the rules over academics! The revenge of the nerds was so accurate.

you are quick with your use of stats. You site no source and you expect people to believe you. How about doing the math of 150,000/300,000,000? That’s the actual death rate and it’s growing! Now how about adding in how many people who did not die still have lingering effects. You can’t because that figure is unknown as different symptoms are identified each day.

do you wear a mask in public? Outdoors? Or do you just believe the outdoor air will protect you? You have the same attitude as the majority of Americans! It’s just a small insignificant number you say. And people die from many other things you say. All that is true until that person is somebody you know. And then you will do anything in your power to try to prevent that one death. Or do you just say it was God’s will and it is what it is and turn on your ball game and have a beer?

You're so full of b.s.

I've cited that source time and again. Wake up.

The fact you aren't aware of the statistics of this virus destroys any credibility you might have had. Where is your intellectual curiosity? You position yourself as some intellectual... some sage... yet you're willing to be blindly led about by the nose, and react only to emotion.

That you think people should use a mask while cutting their own d@mn grass isn't surprising in the least.

Wanting to prevent fatalities isn't the issue. Advocating really stupid public policy with the idea of "saving just one life" is inviting tyranny, turns spiteful people into "Karens" who admit they want non-compliant people to die, and just a really horrible way to tiptoe through life.

Good grief, man. Use that brain God gave ya.

EDIT: What makes matters worse is the horrendous reporting of fatalities. In April, at the outset of this virus, USA Today ran an article, titled, "One in 3 death certificates were wrong before coronavirus. It's about to get even worse." It has. COVID-19 deaths include: A 22 year or who died of a motorcycle accident; Elderly people who died from a gunshot wound to the head, complications from a fall/hip fracture, and the natural progression of Parkinson's disease (3 different people); along with many other egregious examples.

It's panic porn.

Poor leadership at the very top has put us in this position.
Dropout wont't be Big 12 or SEC team. Football is very important to these conferences. PAC 12 is a hot spot so it could eventually be the entire conference. Depends on what their state laws are saying. If they limit gatherings to 50 or less you won't be able to field a football team.

Sure we can. We can claim they're just "peaceful protesters" and be given the green light. Maybe supply bricks for the glass in the press box, set up some dumpsters where they can light fires... you get the picture.

Actually, China's decision to not share information openly put us in this position...

Why are you such a little bitch?

It's interesting that you're calling him a "little bitch" when what he's saying is actually not far from the truth. NO ONE has condemned the protesters from continuing to gather in large groups for weeks. Absolutely nothing they're protesting about over the last month has been anything the nation hasn't already heard. So why continue to protest?

My guess? IU that way they can hang a banner, buy rings and claim they won everything.

Oh wait .. you said Power 5.... My bad

And all you ever want to do is argue with people. If I stopped posting, you’d find somebody else to argue with. And I could easily prove hundreds of examples of you arguing with others.

You choose your own stats and believe them. Stats change! I do not claim to know everything but I am observant.

intelligent people many times disagree. That doesn’t mean one is less intelligent. It just means they examine things trying to use different perspectives. Not everything can be categorized logically or in a stat. Some of our greatest inventions are created through outside the box thinking.

I’ll leave you with an outside the box thought to digest. Ticks and mosquitoes have been known to have been the carriers of many diseases. They also grow in population as the weather gets warmer. The US has a lot of ticks and mosquitoes. Is it possible they could be transmitting this disease? Dogs and cats have both tested positive for this disease. How did they acquire it?

there are many unknowns in life, and also many different correct solutions. Just because mine may be different than the majority does not make them wrong or me any smarter.

In reply to your plea of using my brain, most people with a brain will strive to look for different solutions than the obvious ones!

You started your post with a lie. I challenge you, for sure. You make some really silly posts. You also write some posts I've agreed with. Others are so daffy they're begging for a response.

I don't choose stats. I use the CDC's own stats. Don't like them? Contact the CDC. But do some d@mn research for once, Bigs. Use. Your. Brain. Be intellectually curious. Challenge those in authority on something other than football recruiting decisions... something of substance, affecting our lives and liberty.

I never claimed intelligent people don't disagree, Strawman.

You can strive for different solutions than the "obvious ones", whatever the heck that means. When the solutions are illogical and detrimental to the people at large, you're on the wrong track.

Chris was the epitome of great health.

Nonetheless we are close to hearing Big Ten is cancelling.

No MAC football this fall.

Let’s not be ridiculous, everyone with an education for the ability to research knows the death rate is not the numbers reported, it’s a lot lower. Does around the medical community have reported and I have seen the payments that Medicare makes for respirators when a death is reported as “death by Covid“. One day we will learn the reality and the truth behind why so many are pressing so hard for closures/ cancellations

at 5 PM drive by in raising Cane’s chicken, Popeyes chicken or Chick-fil-A and watch the lion extend out to the main road. My friends, your witness seeing the number one killer in America at work and growing every day. But no one seem to be alarm and by it. Covid death rate .04% but we know factually closer to .01%...

My sources I trust are doctors and nurses and not Fox News or emotional football fans

I'm sorry for your loss. Each and every one. Sincerely.

Again, that's anecdotal.

Fatalities for this virus target the elderly and immunocompromised.

Per the CDC, for those under age 65 over 83% had at least one medical condition.
85 stop talking like you’re a doctor! You’re not.

And stop quoting facts that don’t matter!

there is a lot to this virus that is still unknown. A second grade child received it o her first day of going back to school. And now her family faces the anxiety that if she lives what lingering effects this disease may cause.

there is more to this virus than just positive tests and deaths. There is so much we still don’t know. And saying only old people are affected and less than 1 %. Is acceptable is not the proper response!

I’m sorry your football season is about to be canceled. As they say, it is what it is!

Which doctors are those? There are widely varying opinions among medical professionals around the treatment for COVID. At this point, I have very little faith in what Fauci is saying...

Additionally you have no clue how many listening And camera devices we currently have in China, do you? Our intelligence probably knew everything before their leader did. We just chose not to act on it. It was placed in the brown folder.

Now that’s some outside the box thinking!

I’m proud of you. But your tone seems a little. Bitter! Maybe what you need is a motorcycle and vacation to South Dakota this weekend. No masks required! The citizens tried to cancel the event saying it was unsafe, but they knew the bikers would come anyway. They’re using the money For a portable hospital. I have no idea why. Just another peaceful gathering

Local ones Working 12 hour shifts who deal with this virus on A daily basis. The problem with Fauci is he can’t say what he truly believes. Just yesterday when asked a political question, he had to reply no comment. He’s basically been muted.

LOL!

I've never claimed to be a doctor, Strawman!

Q: Which facts don't matter?
A: The ones you don't like.

Yes, there's a lot unknown about this virus. There's also a LOT of data that's been collected.

You can react emotionally, or you can use... your... brain... and exercise intellectual curiosity.

Or not.

So far, you've chosen the latter.

As to the importance of football vis-à-vis the virus, I really couldn't give a fat rat's arse about the season. You and I can agree on that part... it will be what it will be. What I won't do, is sit idly by while you and your cohorts spread the panic porn without providing some logic, reason and balance.

And you complain about my response to you.

Hypocrite!

I typed my post (which you referenced) with a grin, and TIC.

EDIT: The math is .001, or 0.1%.

It's less than 0.1% that for those under 25 years old. In fact, the fatality rate for this age range is lower than the fatality rate for the flu in a typical year.
