I think they come in four flavors:
1. P5 athletes who see better talent ahead of them that will result in yet more bench time in the next 2-3-4 years. That may be OK if you have a good QB with a marginally better QB ahead of him, but if you have a lineman or DB who can't crack the starting four/five as a junior, he's probably not gonna end up at the top of the depth chart after the transfer.
2. P5 skill player who is in an offense where he can't shine, such as a wide receiver on a running team with a mediocre QB.
3. Mid-major athletes who developed well and want to move it up to the next level to enhance their NFL resumes. All-conference as a sophomore, etc. I think Brohm is targeting these players.
4. Bad karma. Kid just doesn't work out due to grades, drug busts, conflicts with coaches, attitude, whatever.
