Playing the "what if" game

What if CS goes pro? How does that change your outlook on next season and then on CMP?
If he goes to the nba, then I am more in the wait and see camp. What if he leaves and someone like VE explodes?

Also my opinion of CMP wouldn't change. It is a "risk" for any 5* to bolt at any time. That is part of the reason they are ranked so high and leaving early I don't think reflects on the coach.

The only way CS leaves the court next season should be for foul trouble or his own request. Not only is he the most talented player on the team (although you could make an argument for Vince), but he possesses winning intangibles like aggressiveness, fearlessness, confidence, and heart. Nobody works harder or wants to win more than this kid, and I cannot believe some of the comments made about him in this thread.

We need players who want the ball in stressful situations, and CS is that guy.

It wouldn't change how I view CMP at all. Agree with BBG there. I think next year we are in the 3-6 range in the B1G depending on a number of things. Our big man depth won't be great next year if CS leaves, so I could see us losing a few more games and finishing worse in the B1G and NCAA tourney next year. Fully expect to make the tourney with or without him.

Wait.. wait. You agree with me? Holy crap I gotta go play the lottery! :D

topurdue2 You nailed it. With his size and aggressiveness in high school he was able to do it by himself. He seems to think he can still do this. No concept of team. He, also, needs to take the boxing gloves off so that he can handle a pass without fumbling it. He is definitely a player that needs to experience college ball three or four years. What is his family's financial situation? Is that a factor? I hear that he is a good kid.

I would prefer if he did. Dude seems like a weirdo loaner type...

Would have much rather had Basil talent and heart playing the 4 this year.
Don't do it. Caleb might see your post. I have some views on Caleb. But lets wait until the end of May and see what he decides to do...

Yes I want Swannigan.
Here are my thoughts:
Have multiple types of lineup.
Big - IH 5, CS 4, VE 3, DM 2, PJT 1
Small - CS 5. VE 4, BS 3, DM 2, CE 1
Shooters - CS 5. VE 4, DM 3, RC2, CE 1
Sub for fouls and rest within the line up structure the game match ups require.
Any player who develops a triple threat capability (shoot, drive and finish, drive and pass) will be in the game a lot. If no one does attain this capability the team will be similar to this year.

Just guessing, but I think we probably agree on a fair amount concerning Purdue and life in general outside of CMP. Of course that one topic makes it hard to see eye to eye on a Purdue forum.

Completely agree. We may differ on CMP and really it seems only slightly... but that is okay. I will stand by any of our coaches until they show for certain that they can't get it done. Then when they are replaced, I will give the next coach the same support.

In the end we all agree i think that we want Purdue to win. How we get there may differ between us all, but we all want the same end result.

Swanigan was just using Purdue as a fulcrum to the NBA

What is your motive to keep trolling on this? Even if he was "using us", I would like some more 5 star studs to use us. If we had a good blend of talented (but not great) 4 year players (think AJH, VE, Mathias, etc.) and add in a big time 5 star guy (or 2) every year, that would be a boost. We've added a 5th year or transfer most years, and if we replaced those guys with a top 20 player, that's a win. If CS is good enough to go pro, more power to him. I think he will come back, but regardless, I'm glad he was and is a Boiler.

he "coach cal" 'd us

The next to the bottom line is that Coach Painter is going to use the early exit as motivational ammunition of his own (not for anyone else) to take this program to the next level. I would go as much to say that we will get to the final four for the next two years and in the next 4 bring a title to Boiler Nation. It's moments like the end of the UALR game that can sometimes define a person's career --- and lead to greatness. We'll see , but I just have a feeling about this. When I have a hunch about something, it's usually spot on.

I have a suspicion that CS came here to be with AJ and Haas thinking we'd have a ton of success from being such a big team. Now that AJ is gone and I can't imagine us being nearly as good next year...it would not shock me to find out he planned all along to "one and done" us. Which I have no problem with. I'm just disappointed in our epic underachieving season. Not him coming here for a year, if he leaves. Should have been a much different outcome in honesty.

He certainly didn't come in here and be the standout superstar or the one who garnered all the attention. His decision to choose Purdue and not Michigan State can only help our recruiting. He will find it hard to get drafted toward the top, therefore, he will be back in Gold and Black, and that's a great thing for the program. (his Dad knows the deal)

What a croc of shi... you post. I am convinced you are an MSU troll over here posing. Otherwise, why would you even post this? Yu act like he has done something awful to "us" meaning Purdue, not MSU. That might be confusing you.

If Caleb can make a pile of money going early, more power to him. If he gets the feedback I expect he will from the NBA, welcome back. I don't know of anything else anyone would think is supposed to happen.

^ this gets old. Post an opinion and the trashy insults get hurled. Classless. And, the "troll" bs is so played out.

I don't know if Honey Badger is a troll. But I certainly hope he is because I can't imagine a Purdue fan being as clueless as he appears to be.

Not sure how you consider him clueless. If you don't like his opinion, or disagree...counter it. But, the same old worn out attacks and "you're a troll" crap is what I consider clueless. I mean, if you can't put out and rebuttal? Then, you're clueless IMO. If that''s all you can come up with, you don't really know much. LOL

You probably shouldn't be dishing out this kind of advice when you can't even follow these stipulations yourself. While not directly calling people a troll, I have seen enough of your emotionally charged whinefests on here to see that they are along the same lines to which you are whining about here.

But then again, this is nothing new for you and is your schtick.

Sure....you're a 16 post vet! You've got us all figured out. LOL

I have made rebuttals. But since most of his posts are off the wall, I've chosen to just ignore him.

That said, one need only look at his track record for predictions to consider him clueless.

I've noticed he has made a few lately on these league Freshmen going pro. We'll see how that pans out. LOL

Oh yes, use my post count for a rebuttal.I mean it's not like people can't read this forum without posting. I mean who would of thought that was possible right?

But as I figured, you can't counter what I said without showing yourself to be even more of a hypocrite, so you sidestep the whole thing. And now I am sure your next trick will be to call me a girls name or something because that is about the level of substance you have. Or better, you'll make some attempt now to counter what I originally said, but alas, it is too late for you now.

So yeah, especially in your case, I have you figured out.

My concern about the post from Honey-Badger was his series of insults to Caleb. It was the second in a row that I really disliked. When posters call out one of the players for actions reasonable and within normal behavior, I will take it upon myself to point out the error. It was a croc of shit.

What I get from some of these odd posters is a narcissistic perspective that some how, the player or the coach did something that personally affects the poster. Sure, none of us liked losing in the first round. I will bet nobody felt worse about it than Matt Painter and his players. However, some posters take these things as a personal insult. Honey-Badger seemed to be personally insulted that Swanigan would consider going to the NBA, so he posts offensive tripe in response. I'll call out that trashy behavior any time, regardless of your rebuke.

By the way, you have often insulted other posters here so I think you are skirting hypocrisy yourself.

Not true Math. Not true. I never......as in NEVER insult others first. I always, as in ALWAYS post my thought first. My opinion first. Any attack that comes from me will always be in retaliation only. Those are the facts. No hypocrisy here.

I'll never use a comment count to dismiss an opinion...except when you act like you know my posts well. You don't. It is what it is. You're a faux authority on me and my opinions. Any jab you point out that I've made I can demonstrate that it's in retaliation. Nice try.

Unfortunately, unless Carsen Edwards is the real deal, we're going to struggle at the pg position and against the press.
