PJ?

I think he had two. But he made up for them with his steals and boards in the end of the game. He finished well tonight.

I'm really happy for PJ, but also thought Hill played great during his minutes. He was all over the floor saving balls and drawing fouls. I'm very thankful for both of these guys.

Hill is scrappy and a good rebounder. The announcers spoke to that numerous times tonight. Painter has found some diamonds the past few years. This is team basketball.

Coach Painter made the best substitutions I have seen in a while by taking Hill out in the second half (Hill was playing great, but Painter realized that they were playing off him on the zone), Put PJ in and made Pitt rotate harder and allow Cline some clean looks (Hammons helped here as well lol)! Loved It!

Boiler Up!

Had two....one from the announcer's curse.....but had two late, timely thefts that kept Pitt from getting any closer. Johnny Hill and PJ Thompson are doing it by committee and are playing solidly......PJ is definitely showing he's not afraid to take the reins. And they are certainly not the liability, so far, a lot of "experts" were concerned about. Hill seems to have really accepted his role, and he can get to the rim when he picks his spots at the right time.

To give credit where credit is due, I remember when PJ was signed, the response from the interweb:

- majority of fans were welcoming, but in a perfunctory, lukewarm 'lets give this lightly recruited guy the benefit of the doubt' way (including me!)

- a large minority of fans criticised the signing as they were of the opinion that PJ wasn't good enough for Purdue

- a few notable exceptions were high on pj. Oldboiler was one....even before the signing, when it wasnt clear PJ would get an offer, he said something along the lines of 'if Painter does not sign PJ, then he may well turn out to be the one that got away'

I like our two point guards. Not a lot of mistakes and really work hard. Are they elite...no. I think PJ has a lot of room to improve and with the playing time he is getting, he should continue to grow. Not being able to create his own shot could be considered a weakness but hitting the open shot is looking stronger. His handles aren't great but seem to be getting better. I like our future with PJ and Carsen.

Great post. There are those who think that a freshman should play like an NBA lottery pick. Otherwise, Painter failed in recruiting and the player should give up his scholarship so Painter can try again.
