any relation to the Werner that played for us recently ? wouldn't surprise me.

Rah, Rah, Rah! Keep up the Hazzell love!

No Hazell love here...but im not bored or desperate enough to pin stuff on him he doesn't deserve.

Plus, even with as bad as he has been....3 years is a super short time as a tenure for a coach. His first full recruiting class are just now becoming upperclassmen. With new O and D coaches, we can easily see if its Hazell's philosphy the old coaches were putting in place or if they were the dead weight.

I think the Danny Hope days are over romanticized here. They were certainly better than what we have as of now but he wasn't the answer either. That 2009 team in his first year might be one of the most talented teams we've EVER had and he could only muster 5 wins. I don't give him any pass for 2010 either with all the injuries because frankly, we really sucked in the first few games before the injuries set in. I don't think the team got any better or worse through those injuries....that team just kind of sucked. 2011 IMO was his best team and even then we were just average. 2012 was all on Robert Marve's shoulders. All in all, it was time to move on IMO....we just made a bad choice in who his successor was.

Re: Danny hope romanticism.
  • This is mostly because he ws fired because 6-6 wasnt cutting it. The current guy has won 6 games in three years and is allowed to retain employment. The message conflicts
Re: 2009 being talented
  • umwut? offensively we were good, defensively, nope. void of linebackers and thin in the secondary. He should have won more games, but not many more.

Re: 2010
  • Marve was injured in the 2nd game then knocked out for the season in the 3rd. Considering Terbush was ineligible that year we had no viable backup. Winning 2 games with Henry was a good job by Nord.
My biggest beef with Hope that last year was the QB juggling. Marve getting hurt in the ND game was awful, but why didnt he start the second half that game. Just weird.

I wonder if you'll complain about Hazell til' he dies.

Or maybe not stop until you do?
Darrell is fair game as long as he puts up the numbers he does and is on staff. Like his predecessors when he's gone, he's gone as far as I'm concerned. I expect another less than mediocre season. I could be shocked but I'm not expecting that kind of surprise after the first three years. Don't think changing coordinators will change the spots on the animal.

That's fine...but firing him after year 3 and letting MB pick ANOTHER coach was just nuts....and I think a worse thing to happen then letting him coach out his 4th year with a small shot to turn it around. If he doesn't....he's gone and I have 0 problem with it.

I think giving a college coach less than 4 years is not really that fair. Letting MB hire more football coaches is even less fair....to the fanbase. Hazell is getting his swan song and if he continues to suck (bowl or bust) he's gone. Everything happening in the AD is pointing to this.

I'm still convinced he could win 7 games and a bowl game and people here would still want him fired because of the previous 3 years.....where it was at least clear to me that Shoop was some of the issue as well. We will find out just how much in the fall.

If the offense is drastically improved this year and looks like a competent coach designed it, what does that say about Hazell retaining shoop for 3 years? It was obvious to everyone that he was a disaster.

I don't disagree....that said....bad QB/Line situation in year 1, vast improvement in year 2 (but still not great), and then the fall in year 3....

Was he supposed to fire him after year 3 where we improved (but still didn't have a great offense)?

It's easy for us in the non-football world to make these calls week to week and month to month but if Hazell genuinely thought things were improving on offense after year 2, I can't fault that view. We all knew Shoop was a stinker of a hire and he stunk the whole time he was here. I think perception is different when you're inside something.

I think that even with limited talent, our offense will be better. Is it becuase I think the new OC is that great? Not really....I just think Shoop was that bad. But again, after improving in 2014 it was hard to justify showing him the door. I think he was fired at the right time as far as coaching timelines work. That said, its clear he should have never been hired. In that instance....are we going to let a coach correct the mistakes or just can him? If we start canning HCs for 1 bad hire....who's going to want to coach here? Who even wanted to or wants to coach here without even taking being on a short leash into consideration?

No, but you will probably be complaining about other posters until the end of time.
look, I ask a honest ?, this Werner kid is from Indy as was Jason Werner, I live out here in E. Pa. was just curious, also thanks Nat 100 for an answer.

Hey PA - I was referring to pboiler complaining about any post that he deems to be critical of Haze and Morgue, not to your post.

So are you saying Haze hasn't blown it with Purdue legacies?

He's also gotten a couple.

My point is simply that the wheels are in motion for two of the biggest problems with Purdue athletics to be gone by 2017.

The reasons they are still here is because we don't want the problems to last past then and them.

If by some miracle Hazell wins 5 or 6 games he might come back. I don't think we have anything to worry about

Firing Hazell by Burke at the end of last year as it should have been would make Burke admit he fu' ed up and he would not put himself in a position to do that!!!

Agree - and Burke doubled down saying time will tell if he is right or not on Hazell but he knows he is right
He just needs to leave
