Penn State comes in at 5-2. The two loses were against Pitt and Michigan. They are coming off a HUGE win against #2 Ohio State.

Purdue played better last week against Nebraska. Do they have what it takes to knock off #24 Penn State? Thoughts?

We'll have a fighting chance because they struggle mightily on the road under James Franklin. That said, I expect PSU to play ball-control by handing off to Barkley 25+ times and if we can't contain him early, it'll be a long day.

PSU, 31-17.

Of course we do. Now that Hazell is gone, I expect a resounding win in front of a raucous, sellout crowd.

PSU hasn't looked good on the road. Franklin finally got a signature win - how do they respond? Stopping Barkley is key. Is Repogle going to play? I think we keep it close but don't expect to win.

It will be interesting to see if the fans show up for this game Saturday? Playing a top 25 team at home on a nice fall day sounds fun. I could see this game being like the Nebraska game. Close at first but Penn State pulls away.

I wonder too as it's fall break for a number of area schools/families

The >3% decline from Nevada to Iowa was troubling especially considering it was homecoming, the first conference game, and the visitor notoriously traveling well

Imagine it will take time to lure so many that have lost interest through the years, and get the locals back too

It would take two tornado's, one giant hurricane, and a blizzard of epic proportions. And maybe an influenza pandemic.

Stop the big play on defense and Blough needs to throw well , with receivers hanging on to the ball, then Purdue can win.

Fu*k Penn State

Fans are delusional and act like they are entitled to greatness.

I don't think we are "delusional". There are many of us who have been disgusted with the way things have been handled in the past and if you have had a bad experience in the past with certain fans I apologize on behalf of all penn staters. I just love my team and have followed them since I was seven years old. Unlike Notre Dame, our desire to be great should not be confused with a sense of entitlement. The # 24 ranking we have has been earned. Let me throw you a bone. I made the trip from my hometown here in Pennsylvania to West Lafayette 2012 and Purdue fans couldn't have been more gracious. And this was at a time when feelings towards Penn State across the country were at an all time low. I will never forget they way we were treated and will be forever be grateful, especially to the family who invited us to their tailgate and were just outstanding all the way round. I look forward to this Saturday and hope for the best.

Oh thee of little faith. It will be hard to win but the way Parker has the team playing you never know.

Good luck this Saturday. What do you think are Penn State's strengths and weaknesses?

Good question. I think surprisingly the defense has become a big strength of this team. We lost four defenseve lineman to the NFL, and at one point this season had lost seven linebackers. I didnt even think teams had seven linebackers on the roster....haha. By that same token I think our greatest weakness is our youth. We are the second youngest team in division one FBS with 54 freshman on the squad. There are still mistakes that are going to be made and we are going to have to learn from them. My biggest worry is that their head might still be in the clouds after beating Ohio State this past week meaning that there could be a let down in West Lafayette. We shall see.

Glad to hear you were treated well. Older PSU fans are among the best and most hospitable I've encountered across all of sports. Unfortunately, many of the GenX and GenY fans and subway alumni are right up there with Notre Dame and Ohio State for being the worst...especially at Beaver Stadium.

True that. There are some major douche bags out there. At beaver Stadium this past week I found myself apologizing to an Ohio State fan for the abuse that was being hurled his way after the game. If Purdue fans ever make it to our tail gate they are getting the royal treatment.

I have it on good authority that fans would flock back to the stadium after Hazell was let go. I'm expecting a packed house Saturday.

Impressive showing last Saturday vs ohio state for being such a young team. The coach can earn his money by getting the players focused for this Saturday. Purdue is a very hungry team which doesn't have a lot of talent. The interm coach has done a great job of mixing things up and getting them ready to play. I hope Saturdays game is a good one.

I have put many-a-young-punk in their place in State College for ignorant behavior towards away fans. Absolutely no excuse for that stuff. I don't even treat OSU or Mich fans poorly anymore (college years were different).

I think part of it is that most of them have never gone to an away game, they're used to their bubble of 100k+ PSU fans and have never had the tables turned on them.

I apologize on behalf of the PSU community for the scumbag jerks who put a bad taste in your mouth. Believe me when I say that they are absolutely not the majority of fans and alumni.

I've been to three games at Beaver stadium and have always been impressed with how friendly the fans were. It's definitely the best away environment in the conference that I've encountered.

Fentonboiler.
As a Penn State fan class of 54 we earned our good feeling. We had a good coach in Rip eEngle and a better coach in Joe Paterno.
They worked the program from number three in PA to a national championship contender with dignity.
Some of us are too arrogant. They are usually young guys who came after the hard work had been done.

I have been to PSU for probably 5 football games and 4 basketball games. Amazing tailgates, have always had great football experiences and awesome times in the bars afterwards making friends (Why did G-man bar ever close?!).

Basketball has been a different story. The fans at Bryce Jordan Center are angry, even one time had some guy in his late 40's throwing food at us until Lion fans around him complained to the usher. It's a top notch arena, not sure why they don't get better recruits but that's a whole different story.

Overall, it's a great college town with good places to eat and cool people. Can't wait for my next trip there, always fill up my freezer with creamery ice cream that doesn't last nearly long enough.

On the flip side Bryce Jordan is the absolute worst arena in the B1G. It's embarrassing.

I have lived in Columbus and State College. As a fan of another team, PSU fans are FAR LESS annoying to live among than OSU fans.

Side note: I lived 2 doors down from Jerry Sandusky. Nice guy. Or so we thought.

To be fair, I've never been to NW. But PSU upper sections are empty and there's zero atmosphere. The positive is tickets are cheap.
The size of the arena is definitely a problem. They made BJC to be an events center with some money kicked in from the state. As an events center, it's fantastic. It's hard to imagine big time events coming to a small town in the middle of Pennsylvania, but it has become a great place to host national tours for weekday events. So, in that respect, the BJC is a huge success.

The down side is that the arena is just too big for basketball. It's so cavernous and the atmosphere is non-existant. When the house is packed it's great, but you have a town of about 45,000 people (less students) that is three hours away from Pittsburgh, Philly and DC. Makes attendance for basketball tough, especially when you factor in how poor we have been. We have some top 100 freshmen playing this year along with solid vets, so this may be a breakout season for us. If it is, we will see if the BJC can be filled (at least on the weekends). I have seen it when we won the NIT like 6 years ago and when we made the tournament the year after. Games during the week will still be sparsely attended, unfortunately.

I said I'd go, and I'm going.

Credit where it is due. We'll see if there were a bunch of people that thought the same way. FWIW, I have a cousin that is going for the same reason. It looks like the weather will be very nice so there won't be that excuse out there.

Yeah, the Great weather doesn't hurt, if I'm being honest. And the kids fall sports are over, so Saturdays are freed up for a while.

Half our tailgate is in Chicago. Look to the next home game for the fans to start returning IMHKO>

What is up with your never-ending love for Hazel? Are you related to him? The guy was a horrible coach. He got fired. Get over it. He would have been fired last year if we had an AD that had a pair. Why do you keep pissing on everyone's optimism for better things ahead?

I was asking for Hazell to be replaced while most people here were still blaming our problems on Hope so don't give me that.

Well, I am a PSU fan, and I agree we have been a bad road team for years. Unless, we have a really, really good team, and this is not one of those. IMO, you sure do have a chance.
