This may have already been talked about, but one positive from the first game of the season on a true road game was only having 4 penalties, 2 of them being personal foul late hits (shows aggressiveness) and I think the other 2 were pass interference...also due to physical play).
I thought it was very noticeable how much more fluid and organized we appeared compared to the past few years (especially year 1). No delay of games, false starts...and I think maybe there was 1 timeout called do to the play clock running down that Hazell called from the sideline.
In that regard, I think you have to give the coaching staff (and players) credit for being disciplined and improved in that area.
As frustrated as I am we gave that game away, I still think as a team we looked better and all is not lost yet...especially since VT's backup QB looks like a worse passer than Appleby which makes that game more winnable. Giving away 14 points on interceptions really overshadowed how decent of a game the rest of the team played for a majority of the game...game 1, on the road.
