Painter will never get Purdue to the FF.

He’s been here 18 years. He’s actually getting worse as a tourney coach.
Time to clean out the Keady/Painter era and make a change that will change the Purdue culture and perception.
Unlike me, nobody accuses you of being an IU troll. But I want my grandpa to see a Purdue FF before he dies and it is really beyond belief that others don't have a sense of urgency. In the business field we have metrics that need to be met and "metrics of failure". We have met the metric of failure for so many years now, I don't understand what the "metric for failure" is for some of these posters.

They’re very afraid Of change. They believe that Purdue can’t do any better than Painter.

How many of the Keady coaching tree have been to a FF? Definition of insanity. Our athletic department is the definition of mediocre.

Bump Painter up to head of bball operations- then bring Shrews back to Purdue.
Simple!
I like this a lot. I have been clear that CMP needs to go. But at the end of the day he gives an amazing presser 99% of the time, knows the game (outside of the in-game alterations), is well respected, and is well connected on the national level.

It's also a way for him to "stick around" in a way that respects his contributions to the program while giving us an opportunity to finally get to the next level - like most of our neighbors (OSU, Butler, MSU, Michigan, etc.).

There are two types of teams that make the final four. You either get hot or you just keep knocking on the door year after year and you make that run. Purdues problem is that the losses year after year to high seeds holds the program back. When the tournament comes it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

We have large enough of a sample size now to know that we have regressed to our mean. The Carsen year was a massive outlier.

Painter’s biggest issue IMO is his refusal to use NIL in recruiting.

He has to marshal some resources with Purdue’s big hitters and attack the portal like the Bears attacked NFL free agency.

Come tourney time rinse and repeat.

I can’t believe how much idiocy is present in this thread. I assume most of you have a degree from Purdue, which means you are somewhat intelligent.

Purdue isn’t going to do better than Painter as a coach. Yes, we have choked. We have also gotten extremely unlucky and had to deal with some terrible calls, but ultimately we are tournament chokers. We are also in the best 5 year stretch Purdue basketball has ever seen. Now is not the time to fire the head coach who got you here and who has more great players on the way.

Who said they won’t do better than Painter as a coach? You act like the man is John Wooden.

You need to raise your level of consciousness.

Loser mentality. “This is the best we can ever do so why risk it”

If this loss doesn't change minds, then absolutely nothing ever will. That is a record that will likely never be matched ever again. Will a 1 seed ever again lose to a play in team? A play in team? This takes the cake. We've all had to deal with being the butt of jokes. This will never be lived down by Painter.

NIL just showed up. Not using the NIL is just further validation of Painter’s stubborn mentality and inability to understand today’s game.

Can’t wait for next season when we cake walk through an overrated Big Ten conference, get a 3 seed, and then lose to a 14 so we can lose to 13-14-15-16 seeds in four years.

Think this team was a fantasy team the last month. We all knew this could happen. Only way Purdue wins tournament games is with athletic players who create own shots. Painter isn't going to be fired because he wins games and runs a clean program. Unfortunately this is reality.
good post need to recruit some athletic guys, too many stand aounds that can't create.

There was a stretch in the late 70's and early 80's that was pretty good. I think best 5 years ever is a stretch.

Purdue has a long history of hiring winning coaches. To act like painter is irreplaceable is dead wrong. History suggests that we would in fact hire another winner. If I’m correct, the 2 coaches before gene and Matt both made a final four. So quit saying we can’t do better, that’s a flat out lie.

As far as I know, we are indeed using NIL to recruit, quite generously. ...and we are staying somewhat within the guidelines of the NCAA (which Miami did not). Not sure what your point is.

Other poster was using NIL as the latest excuse for CMP’s tourney ineptitude. It’s sad listening to national pundits use CMP as a punchline. I guess it’s positive that it more about the coach than the school right now.

Word on the radio is Edey is likely to get $1.5-2M in NIL this year if he comes back.

Can we stop with the "Purdue can't afford him" BS when it comes to paying for some players.
He was NPOY, of course he gets premium $$, no one else will be in this neighborhood.
