He did not get the message to his team to get the ball to the 7’4 guy the last 12 minutes, his unwillingness to run any kind of zone led to another loss to a double digit seed…a 16 beat a 1 for only the second time in history of 64 team field. This is even worse than the North Texas loss and I really didn’t think that we could hit a lower point than that. I’ve never been a fire Painter guy, but come on, at some point you have to deliver on the biggest stage.

Purdue hasnt made shots for a month and a half and won games. That being said how does Painter not scheme a better offensive plan. Was his plan for his team that cant shoot 3s to jack up as many as they did? How about Edey? One shot the last 12 minutes?? How does that happen?? Is FDU suddenly the greatest D in the country? No, they are actually one of the worst which makes it sting even more. I have defended Painter before but i cant tonight. This is fireable. Wont happen but it is a fireable performance.
Edey should have gotten the ball every single time. Smith should have been on the bench with his turnovers. No zone, press, trap or anything different on defense. Enough is enough.

Worked great most of the game and all year. We just stopped giving him the ball.
He says he recruits his kind of players . Non athletic and slow . We have missed out on all the athletic guards cause no one wants to play where the main objective is to walk it up and throw it inside. Where is the foot speed needed to play deep into the tournament ?
I thought the zone Painter had the team practice last week knowing his guys may not be able to guard these quick players was genius. Won the game for us…oh wait. The slashing athletic players came in handy when the threes weren’t falling, great recruiting Matt..oh wait.

This is on Painter. He knew how they would defend Edey. What was his solution? To jack 3s? They just lost to one of the worst defenses in the nation. Painter has to be better.
It’s not a coincidence that his best tourney team was guard oriented. Yet, he’s still stuck in the 70s and Keady style who thinks the offense has to run through the low post.
Painter just can't or doesn't adjust. His plays are just that and never gets adjusted.

A lot of Purdue fans think Painter is the best we can get. They’re just happy to win 20 games and make the tourney. Anything after that is gravy.

Funny , they talked about the lack of a zone defense and how Painter doesn’t have one . All agreed they need one but Painter never will , just like a full court press. But Painter won’t do that either

I agree, he is the one who says who plays, and recruits the players, then coaches them to style he wants to play.
As many have already stated... This is 18 years of tourney failures... How you can consistently find excuses for this just tells me you're too prideful to admit you were wrong... People have talked about the double digit seed losses but don't forget VCU and the Cincinnati collapse...
