The day after Halloween, and over 8,000 come dressed as empty seats.

Instead of a homecoming, Carson Cunningham thought he was still in Big Sky Country.

A real hotbed of phone-it-in school spirit.

Too bad everyone had finals the next day.

There’s bigger crowds in Harry’s toilet.

The players’ families would have doubled the gate.

Never in the course of sporting events have so many owed so little to so few.

Hate to see the turnout if we weren’t nationally ranked at No. 20 with four senior starters back from a Big Ten championship team. Not enough hands to play solitaire.

it is this way every year. students dont show up until we play a ranked opponent or big ten play. sad

This wasn't even a game, it was a scrimmage...
We talkin' about a scrimmage: Not a game, not a game, not a game! We talkin' about a scrimmage. Not the game, not the game that Purdue goes out there and dies for, and plays every game like it's their last. It's not the game. We talkin' about a scrimmage, man. I mean how silly is that? We talkin' about a scrimmage.

fully understand that and fully understand the reasons for students, but there is some happy medium I'm sure. Essentially there are a lot of "real" students that just don't care about sports at Purdue as some places where they are not "real" students. School is going on and assignments are needing to be addressed...as well as just studying...very valid reasons, but for those that really had nothing requiring attention there were many that just didn't want to go. I missed more games as as student that I have in ALL my years since

Purdue routinely has one of the largest attendance figures in the NCAA. And there aren't many (if any) student sections I would trade for the Paint Crew. Complete non-issue. Find something else to complain about.

TJ, fyi PE was quoting AI.

ha ha...was looking for Al's post. Going in so many directions...thought is was Al ins "some" thread... ;)
Sorry, went too brief on the post! Ill have go through the excruciating agony of spelling out names next time.

Find something else? Let's see ... The team's great. The facility's great. The school's great. And then the student sections each had a couple dozen empty bleacher rows -- plenty to complain about there.

I wouldn't trade them, either. You can't get something for nothing.

It was "Game 1" on the season ticket package. Of course, you'd have to have season tickets to know that.

Excuses hereabouts are as lame as turnout. Show up or shut up.

Behold, above, the eloquence of a no-show for English 101.

Nonetheless, in the interest of fair-and-balanced coverage, we must offer our hearty applause to the student turnout for Southern Illinois at Edwardsville -- a mostly full house -- a far better showing than for most non-con games, especially the ones without a ranked opponent ... or free shirts.

After all, joining thousands upon thousands of your peers to celebrate your unity and community at football or basketball games is the second-most memorable experience of college life.

Boiler Up!
