It's amazing how the power has shifted from the West Coast to the Midwest over the past decade or so. And even though Purdue hasn't *yet* played for a championship, they were one of the groundbreaking programs here.the B1G is the conference for WVB... bar none.
I think adding Penn State did a lot to add to the conference's power. They were quite the program in the 1990's.It's amazing how the power has shifted from the West Coast to the Midwest over the past decade or so. Was a very exciting finish.Boilers just finished off BYU 3 to 2. Tight match, final set finished 18 to 16. On to the next round!
Caught the last set against BYU at lunch. Didn't see first 4 sets but Purdue won the 1st set, lost the next 2, won the 4th set with a really strong start, forcing the 5th. They really battled to the finish and it didn't disappoint. Good and fun times with Purdue sports right now. Can't get enough of it.
I was the same as you. But I now have a 16yr old daughter in HS that plays vball... so I obviously watch it alot more now and have really become a fan too.I never used to watch this sport, but the last few years I have become a big fan. Coach Shondell and Purdue's rise have made me a true believer. Olympics helped also. You can teach an old dog new tricks or an old trick and new dogs. Something like that, I think?
Coach Shondell is always rah-rahing our other sport teams on twitter. I like his passion for Purdue.
It is not specific to volleyball...very accurate with respect to volleyball, but, it is not specific to volleyball...Purdue collectively has a pretty great core of coaches right now...especially with a particular someone having left a particular program where they use a round orange ball and play games in Mackey Arena. Our coach has made all the difference in changing our program around in volleyball.
Perfect with respect to the Purdue mindset...The poise and composure from these ladies is amazing! They came back from 2 sets down to win in the round of 32 against Dayton as well. I know a lot of us have been conditioned to have a defeatist attitude as Purdue fans. There’s no way I would have had the composure they did to stare down 4 straight match points (5 overall) and fight out a win. They’re a really impressive team and well coached.
I watched the entire match, I concur that Purdue was the better team, however, it was close. Purdue had the harder hitters, BYU seemed to be more consistent, perhaps boring is the correct word. Great win!BYU had only 1 loss on the season, but if you watched the match- you could see Purdue was the better side. Purdue hit the ball MUCH harder (numerous spikes straight into the floor, hard off BYU bodies, etc), we were blocking nearly everything, etc.
To BYU credit, they played very clean... good service and very few errors. They didn't beat themselves. Purdue on the other hand had TEN service errors, numerous hits out of bounds etc, etc. Those free points mainly came in sets 2 and 3. When Purdue plays clean, they are one of the top teams in the country.
