Good afternoon Des ... How did you sleep?in morning ambush near the BRPD headquarters.
Sad and our commander and chief will use this as another gun control moment instead of speaking up for the cops and denouncing these actionsin morning ambush near the BRPD headquarters.
Ya know....I am so sick of this argument. I am in favor of the 2nd Amendment as much as anyone...but that doesn't mean we can't do anything make improvements. Simple changes like using technology that allowed THE OWNER OF THE GUN to disable it if it is lost or stolen similar to OnStar when a car is stolen. How many people die from a bullet coming from a stolen gun each year? I guarantee its in the 10,000 + range. That would be something simple that wouldn't hurt a law abiding gun owner.....but its idiotic statements like yours that prevent even the simplest of conversations from happening.Sad and our commander and chief will use this as another gun control moment instead of speaking up for the cops and denouncing these actions
Ok I suppose you want to control truck sales, pressure cookers, knives, etc.Ya know....I am so sick of this argument. Ahhhh...when the 1st idiotic argument doesn't work ....refer to your script to the 2nd most used idiotic statement. Again...instead of having a conversation about what can be done......we are reduced to the lowest common denominator.Ok I suppose you want to control truck sales, pressure cookers, knives, etc.
There is a difference between mentally ill and attacks by evil people.Ahhhh...when the 1st idiotic argument doesn't work ....refer to your script to the 2nd most used idiotic statement. If you want to use that argument....ok, let's put our money where our mouths are and get serious about mental health in this country....how do we get help to those that need it before they weaponized their Hamilton Beach crock pot? .....if you can't think of anything go ahead a refer again to your script for dipshit argument #3
general board
I certainly agree with that.....so what I think I hear you saying is that we might need to have a multi pronged approach to reduce these senseless killings....and I think I also heard you say that no matter what we won't eliminate it altogether. And what I heard loud and clear is that even though we may need to make some minor sacrifices in order to make improvements its absolutely imperative to uphold the 2nd amendment .....we are making progressThere is a difference between mentally ill and attacks by evil people.
Typical liberal argument. His opinion is different than yours so he's obviously an idiot and a dip shit. No one would ever describe me as a liberal.... lol. You're right though I tried to attack the message not the person but I failed... My apologiesTypical liberal argument. Des you may want to read the article again that happened last night... Our news is just slowWhile you are playing board commander four men were just arrested after gunshots were fired and there was a police chase through Greater Lafayette. Reported by W!FI-TV. My first reaction is to tell you to remove your head from your ass. My second reaction is to apologize since you may not be aware of the danger right in our midst on a Sunday afternoon. Sorry, but recruiting is a little less important right now given the tone and tenor.

As I always told my kids, After midnight there are not many things that can happen and none of them are usually good.

And there are plenty of conduits on which to discuss it. I come here to talk Purdue sports and a few other places to talk about stuff like this. While you are playing board commander four men were just arrested after gunshots were fired and there was a police chase through Greater Lafayette. I'm going to read these ... ThanksYou seem to have good intentions, based on your posts here. The problem with these "minor sacrifices" are that while they seem innocent enough (and because of that, opponents are painted as violence loving lunatics), they open the door to taking decisions about 2nd amendment rights out of the hands of elected officials.
A great read regarding this very sneaky epidemic is Undemocratic: How Unelected, Unaccountable Bureaucrats are Stealing your Liberty and Freedom by Jay Sekulow
It would certainly be considered a partisan book (although the erosion of our rights has historically been a bipartisan effort), but if all Americans knew what has been happening to our country, right under our noses, I believe that upwards of 90% would say "party lines be damned, this cannot be allowed".
For instance, if we start making stricter mental health benchmarks, who decides what the standards are? Who is allowed to make changes to those standards? This type of soft concession is exactly what the politicians that want to get rid of guns altogether are hoping for.
Another great read is The Snapping of the American Mind by David Kupelian. It does a great job of defending the "slippery slope" argument that's against making seemingly small concessions. I will say that the last chapter will turn some people off because of a psychological analysis of religious beliefs, but it's still very much worth the read.
somehow you always think you're cruising down the high-road despite stuff like this.My first reaction is to tell you to remove your head from your ass

I'll pass on that idea. You're introducing technology and a lot more opportunities for things to go wrong. Now suddenly I need to make sure my firearms don't have dead batteries? No thanks.Ya know....I am so sick of this argument. I am in favor of the 2nd Amendment as much as anyone...but that doesn't mean we can't do anything make improvements. Boys and their guns. It's like pen#s envy.
Except they can hide behind the second amendment. And the covert depression that runs rampant thru the country's males just gets swept under the rug.
Let's just admit that the NRA has no concern over the real issue. They just want to sell more guns! Capitalism!
It's ridiculous how quickly you denigrated something into politics, but since you have... Obama has denounced police killings while also trying to limit gun violence through gun control measures. It is possible to have sympathy for victims, while also seeking justice for them and beyond that trying to prevent these acts of violence from happening in the future.Sad and our commander and chief will use this as another gun control moment instead of speaking up for the cops and denouncing these actions
Right because if they couldn't get a gun they couldn't just go rent a truck instead? Stop blaming the tool that is used for the evil that is using it. My guns have never shot anyone, no matter how hard they try they just can't seem to pull their own trigger. It's ridiculous how quickly you denigrated something into politics, but since you have... Bc I'll somehow be painted as a ban all guns guy, lets just get it out of the way that it's not at all my position. I've grown up around responsible gun owners and hunters and fully believe in their rights to those weapons.Right because if they couldn't get a gun they couldn't just go rent a truck instead? Clueless comments, steeped in emotion and devoid of facts. You did give us a lot of insight into your hard Leftist leanings. Covert depression?? Really? NRA does more for gun safety in this country than any other organization, but that doesn't fit your narrative. NRA doesn't sell guns. A cheap shot at Capitalism, which was a driving factor in making this country great. Perhaps you should move to Venezuela, where you can enjoy the fruits of Socialism.
Unfortunately, you're dealing with a theoretical world and not the real world. Adding this technology amounts to a placebo, that will do nothing to stop this senseless killing.
First, there are over 100 million guns in the country already. What will this mandate do to affect these guns? Nothing. Secondly, the people that need guns the most are the poor people living in these war zones, like inner city Chicago, so they have some chance to protect themselves from the armed thugs. Adding this technology will raise the price of these guns to the point, where they are completely unaffordable to the people that need them most.
Adding new gun laws won't matter either, since we have over 20K gun control laws in this country already. It would help, if there was a greater effort made to enforce the laws, that are on the books already. Mandatory sentencing for people that use guns in crimes would help.
Bc I'll somehow be painted as a ban all guns guy, lets just get it out of the way that it's not at all my position. I've grown up around responsible gun owners and hunters and fully believe in their rights to those weapons.
However, I think there is a very real case to blame this particular group of gun in the assault rifle. These are quite literally engineered to kill as quickly and efficiently as possible, and in the wrong hands are incredibly devastating even when combatted by trained law enforcement that are heavily armed. We already have precedent for incremental restrictions to civilian ownership in banning fully automatic weapons and IMO the semi-automatic, long barrel, high mag AR seems to be a very logical next step.
I am also of the opinion that open carry laws are not in the best interest of society, and I would like more background checks and restrictions on weapons dealings. I think these are some steps that can help keeping weapons out of the wrong hands, but like you said, there are other ways to commit horrible acts and there always will be. There are also still going to be a high number of guns already out there and ways to circumvent these laws (black market, homemade mags, etc.) but I believe these are solid steps in the right direction that uphold the right to bare arms while making it incrementally more difficult for the wrong person to get their hands on a weapon at the wrong time.
Ideally we could find a way to prevent these with mental healthcare, but I'm not sure how you go about that. Overall, we've seen all races, religions, and even veterans commit these acts so IMO the points above are good steps in the interim.
if you'd used any more straw there'd be a lot of bedless horses. As long as there are guns in the hands of bad guys the suppression of reasonable gun carry laws preventing people who meet background tests and have taken training on gun safety, operation, maintenance and use from owning guns should be sternly opposed. The issue I never hear Anti gun people discuss is in this country when we constantly debate the question of Justice and equality is how can politicians, business moguls, Hollywood celebrities, rock stars and the like have armed body guards and the masses be exposed to violent criminals without the ability to defend themselves. Our own Purdue recently completed a study for the DHS and among the findings is the average police response time to a 911 call is ten minutes. How many of you are willing to hope police arrive in time to serve and protect you, your loved ones, family and friends?
