Dave Pasch just tried valiantly to shut Walton up whilst reciting all of the schools in the UC system by noting that Cuonzo and Alford come from a great rivalry themselves. Walton replies along the lines of "I'm a conference of champions guy that has doubled up the Big Ten in championships...blah, blah, blah., and UCLA is number one."

Where does he think nearly all of those banners in Pauley come from? Martinsville (Alford's childhood home) and Purdue (Martin). Typical solipsistic tripe from that deadheaded fool.

I'm listening to that game while reading on here. He is an absolute tool. How ESPN continues to give him a job is beyond me. Especially UCLA games. He was just bragging about what a great crowd it was in Pauley and the camera shows empty seat after empty seat in the lower arena. Complete homer.

Yeah....even for Walton, I was a little surprised he went that direction without even an acknowledgment.....however....after 1,000+ Grateful Dead concerts.....anything's possible.

The sound of his voice is the sweetest sound he's ever heard. When the game first started there was severe microphone feedback where I almost couldn't here him. I turned the channel as soon as they cleared it up.

I thought Walton did have kind of a funny comment early in first half, when he was unable to distinguish Cal's Charlie Moore from Sam Singer.....and said, " well you know Mike, every guy I have ever met under 6'10" all look the same to me"

I like him because he doesn't take anything too seriously, especially himself. As long as one can accept that fact, he's quite hilarious.

That said, I wouldn't want him calling a Purdue game unless it was a blow-out in our favor.

I live in California and he works a lot of the PAC channel games...He gets so under my skin..Just rambles on about nothing to do with the game..It's like being sober and trying to talk to a drunk person..As soon as I saw him pop up on TV tonight, I changed the channel..

Glad I wasn't alone , it was a real turn off watching that game. Really hard to watch

He is funny to an extent. He has done 1000 too many hits of acid.

I read your post and have a 180 degree perception of him in everything. I watched him once on a game show where he was totally humbled. You could see that he was so pissed that he couldn't think our talk. That tells me his ego is so big that he does take himself too seriously and is too competitive in all aspects of life.

I didn't see that game last night, but generally I like Bill Walton calling a game. The color guy can add value to me by doing one of two things. The first is give me new information or point out things that I wouldn't otherwise know or think about. That's clearly not Walton's role. The other thing a color guy can do that adds value to me is simply to entertain me and that's what Walton does for me. When he starts speaking in hyperbole it cracks me up most of the time.
