I think the average basketball fan is getting a glimpse of just how much of a slime ball this guy really is. Yes, he apologized.. only after the audio came forth to prove he was lying about what he said to the Oregon player. Otherwise he would have stuck to his denial and waged his power against an innocent 20 year old.

I think it is highly possible that "Coach K" will end up being another one of these win-at-all-costs legends that gets hit with scandal before all is said and done. It's tough to bring a guy like this down because he himself is a college basketball institution. But he has ticked enough people off, and once his power and influence in the game have waned somebody is going to open up to the media. Just hope there hasn't been any truly criminal cover-ups.

I don't know about scandal, but he has a really high opinion of himself. I hope he chokes on his smug cloud. It's not like he doesn't have giant classless douchebags on his current team.

I think the guy is arrogant and probably a bit of a bully (hey, he learned under Knight afterall) but I'd be surprised if he was involved in a major scandal. Tom Izzo on the other hand.......

I guess it depends on what you consider a scandal. Do you consider the Bob Knight choking and physical/verbal intimidation that sealed his fate at IU a scandal? Like you say, this is his disciple.

Whenever you have an arrogant individual with questionable character and mostly unchecked power, it generally leads to bad things. Whether it be a coach or religious leader, guys like this tend to fall hard.

Big time college coaches live in a bubble. They are worshiped and rarely called to task for poor decisions. K is the poster boy for this. He is lauded by the media (especially the 4 letter network) and put on a pedestal.

There is no doubt in my mind that he would have stuck to his story and continued lying if audio evidence had not been presented. I also have no doubt that this story won't have much legs. ESPN and others will move on quickly and continue to protect him.

He is the last coach that needs to be preaching to others about sportsmanship........ Grayson Allen.........

Doesn't seem like any big deal what he said. Sure, he "coached/scolded" the Oregon player, but he did it in a respectful way that acknowledged the player's talents.

Could totally understand that part, but then denying it in the press conference is what made this a bigger issue. And I tend to agree that this only came to light when people saw the exchange from the game and used social media to refute it.

And now the new "coach-speak" line......"I reacted incorrectly....." Translation? "I lied/tried to deflect, and I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those meddling kids."

Great Coach.....great coach......one of the all-time greats, but he's no slouch when it comes to manipulating the media, either.

But hey, he did apologize......on to bigger fish to fry.

"I believe that we should be wary of contributing to the mystification of people because of the lofty official positions they achieved….”

Have always thought this quote applies perfectly to Coach K.

Who cares.

Did it bother you when Painter got on the IU player?

Jerk running for leader of the free world does it its cool, coach does it shame on him?

It's the lie that is the worst part of it. In the heat of the moment, and after a loss, I totally understand saying something like he did. The Oregon player probably shouldn't have taken that shot, but with the clock running down, a split second decision was a bad one by him.

Ok like you have never lied? Pretty hypocritical of everybody.

Come on he was just upset.. He apologized and I'm sure he was emotional in his press conference. Coach K is a class act and if this is the only thing that can be dug up on him than he really is a class act. People are ripping coach K about being frustrated with another player while two other cheaters for ACC coaches are sitting in the FF. Focus the hate towards Williams and Boeheim they are the true pricks.

Lied like that? No I never have. What is hypocritical is an arrogant coach with significant power abusing his position. He publicly calls out a kid who just accomplished a significant achievement while saying nothing about the poor sportsmanship displayed by his own star player all year. Not to mention has handed significant beat downs to overmatched opponents for years...must have missed Duke letting the shot clock runout in their innumerable 100-69 blowouts of Sisters of Mercy U. There is context you are overlooking. Reminds me of his mentor...no class.

He abused his power? If anything in the press conference he tried to retract his statement. This is a silly subject. Coach K was upset that 12 months of hard work went down the drain and a player was being arrogant on the court about it. He could of waited to celebrate after the game. If Yogi Ferrell did something to Purdue in that manner you would be upset too. Coach K was just upset plain and simple.

He did not call out a kid publicly.

And so there are degrees to lies? The stupid internet age has created so many stupid faux outrages.

I think its fake and petty.

Faux outrage makes the internet, and the world it seems, go-'round. This is a stupid non-story that is being completely blown out of proportion.

File this under...

Not only did he lie, but he also was an arrogant, dismissive prick to the reporter.

If Coach K wants to go about acting like he should be revered at all times, then he should be aware of the flip side of that coin, which, in this case, comes in the form of warranted criticism.

Coach K cheats. Those who proclaim to be above the fray are often the ones covered in filth.
Did Coach K tell Langford that he needs to leave New Albany and attend a prep school? Heard that yesterday, but had not seen it anywhere else.

He was wrong with respect to the Brooks matter...not the first time, nor will it be the last. The fact that he willingly lied...then responded to the reporter as he did, show the true character (or lack thereof).

Faux outrage or just simply calling out a revered public figure for showing his true colors? Maybe somewhere in between. But.. those who have followed him closely understand this is typical and that he is not the image portrayed by ESPN.

I don't often agree with Dan Bernstein, but he has Krzyzewski flat out pegged.

I don't think Coach K is a slime ball. I think his head has swelled to the size of a helium balloon. Remember the IU game at Duke. IU player inadvertently bumped into Coach K. Coach K went all whiny about it.

No I wouldn't be upset if Yogi drained a three as the shot clicked ticked to zero...more the opposite. K is an entitled prick who can't take what his team routinely deals out. A lot like Knight.
