So I have been coming to Indy via Chicago for work some lately and been listening to a good amount of talk radio and I have a few observations/questions for local Indy guys. I should add, that I am not really a Pacers or Colts fan and now is kind of a dead period for sports, but I have been less than impressed w/ the local coverage so far. Anyway, here are some notes from the past few weeks I wanted to being here for discussion:
1. What happened to Query and Shultz? From what I recall, they were somewhat IU homers (albeit not the worst offenders on air), but always thought they were decent, but not on anymore?
2. JMV is pretty lame. That is really all I have to say about his show
3. Can't believe Mike Greenberg still has a radio show in the AM. He is el brutál.
4. Dakich is Dakich and really only tolerable during hoops season. He had his wife on one day and was kind of a snooze fest
5. This threw me for a loop, but Jake Query was filling in for JMV tonight and had Queso Rabby on and.... holy cow is he a homer. Not that any recruits are listening, but the way he was just talking about IU targets (by name no less) on radio and pumping Woodson's tires I couldn't believe it. Query also asked Rabby about Gillis's DUI which was entirely unnecessary and didn't go with the flow of the conversation at all.
I guess I forgot about the arrogance of the Indy media and their love for IU since I have been in Chicago for the past 8 years. My main question for Indy people is does the college sports coverage pick up more in the fall or winter or is it still predominantly Colts/Pacers/IU ? I am not expecting a dedicated Purdue show , but hoping they dig into football and basketball more than once a week during the seasons. I no doubt am underestimating the fandoms of the Colts/Pacers and realize that I really only care about Purdue sports and that is not reflective of the Indy metro area, but man is the Indy media kind of boring. I am staying in Zionsville and there are tons of Purdue plates which I love, but are we really that outnumbered so much throughout the rest of the Indy area? I really feel for our Indy brethren on here as it must be brutal having to hear this year round. Curious local people's thoughts on this topic that gets brought up on the regular. I wil; hang up and listen
