Wow. These guys are very athletic and Kansas cannot get into an offensive rhythm.

Dylan Ennis is probably the 3rd most athletic guard on Oregon after Dorsey and Brooks. I think we tried to recruit him as a transfer from villanova.

Unlike our game where we couldn't stay in front, Kansas relies on dribble penetration and can't get anything going against OU.

Oregon offense seems to be a lot of isolation and not so pretty to watch but their players have iso skills. Dorsey and Brooks both look like NBA guys.

Painter needs to recruit only athletic guards for now on. No more P.J.'s, those days of college basketball are long gone.

Altman is using a match - up quit a bit.

Why piss on PJ? The kid had a better night against Kansas than just about any other Purdue player. I'll take him on the team anytime.

Ronnie, Barlow, Jacob Lawson - all superior athletes; none of them are as good as PJ.

Still he is a defensive liability. If only he was 5 inches taller.

I think the common theme we're seeing and have seen for years to advance in the tourney it helps to have fast skilled guards. The pound into the big center over and over method even while their being fronted and doubled doesn't work. You need guards that can create..

Purdue did not have the back court to beat a team like Kansas. Carsen Edwards is a guard that could be like the guys on Oregon.

Bill Self is going to take ALOT of heat. I love the fact Kansas losing on basically their home court. Haha....

PJ was not better than Barlow. Kelsey is the exact type of play we needed against Kansas

Did you see how well he did after he got out from under Painter?

What I said had nothing to do with how well he did once he got away from Purdue nor that Purdue was the problem. He didn't play the way Painter wanted him to and that's why it didn't work. Doesn't change the fact that he had a high talent level while he was at Purdue. The majority of transfers who perform to or above the expectations they came to their original school with is very low at their new schools.

Our guards are all too short

Mathias is 6'4 and Cline 6'5. They're just less quick and athletic overall than the top-tier guards.

Nojel Eastern should be able to play as a guard. He's 6'5 and fairly quick and athletic. How well he can develop his perimeter jumper will be important for him. So, he and Carsen Edwards will be two guards that should have both the skill and athleticism to better hang with the guards that start and play significant minutes for blue-blood programs and/or Final Four (or better) type of teams. That's two that should be able to hang with the big boys: Purdue can benefit from adding a couple more like that in the next season or two.

Yes, Painter flew to meet Ennis in person in the spring (or summer?) of 2015. After meeting, either Ennis did not want to go to Purdue or Painter did not want to take him. Maybe they had differences on how they wanted to him to play on the offensive end and what type of offense they would like to run.

Thompson gets the most out of his ability, of which I admire him. I agree though that he, Mathias, and Cline are all a step or two slow compared to teams that could be considered to be the top 10 or 20 backcourts in any given season. It's the harsh truth.

Kelsey's shooting and discipline both left a lot to be desired. Better athlete than PJ? Sure. Better player? Meh...

Really? The empirical data for RJ's career after he left Purdue- and ostensibly went to programs that are more friendly to his skills - doesn't matter? That's an interesting argument.

Athletes are great no argument. But they need to be able to shoot also. We have seen that problem before. I think the freedom of movement rules eliminating the "don't let them go where they want to go" defense has hurt teams constructed like ours more than people realize. We used to slow down better athletes physically but now they are free to move and use their advantage.

This is true. When you have 2 of those 3 on the floor, you've got good 3 pt shooters but slower defenders and no rebounding from the guard position.
As for PJ, he does what he can, but he's actually a better 3 pt shooter than pg.
if you're a guard under 6 ft, you have to be able to do things like a Frank Mason.
LewJack was Mason without the outside shot.
I think CE will be that guard of the future for PU if Painter doesn't screw him up.
