One week bye

This going to be a rough couple of weeks for the team. Hopefully Stepehns is back to give the team even more depth.

Will the 4 sunshine boys like heller et al be able to think up their propaganda? Remember when we thought IUT was awful? I don't even know if Heller is a real boy fan mod boy. But he is sure a hate-filled nazi boy.

WTF is this all about? In other posts you have basically said you don't give a shit about your school. Why then are you even posting here? Furthermore, what is your issue with Heller? I think you need to be placed in an ignore box for all this name calling.

Couldn't have came at a better time.

Let's get prepared and healed and go get some signature wins.

One thing to note....

Iowa mentioned how different the Under Armour basketballs were compared to the more standard balls used by most schools.

They said they practiced with them for 3 days before playing them, so it wasn't them giving an excuse for their performance, but there's even quotes from Gary Williams talking about how it's weird there's such differences in the balls that teams use.

Hope Purdue's practicing with them all week.

You would think there would be a standard. Thanks for pointing this out. I wasn't aware.

TMHR needed at least three more days then from what I saw.

Not sure if this is still up to date, but as of a couple years ago Wisconsin was the only school to use a certain manufacturer. Whether or not it really affected games, it was an old wives tale to try to explain part of their home court advantage. Here is a reference from the New York Times: NY Times Article

If we play like the Neb game on offense at Maryland, I'll call it a pick 'em game right now. Honestly though, I just want AJ to bring that nasty streak for 6 games in late March early April.

Winning the B1G regular season with Purdue's draw of the unbalanced schedule was going to be tough this season.
Long ago I stated it may be easier road to win the NCAA than the B1G for Purdue this season.
Just hope that we are playing our best ball at the end of the season and BTT, get a decent draw and a little luck with assistance from an upset or two, then work hard to win 3, 2 game tournaments.
I still say this Purdue team can Win the NCAA, despite a shortcoming or two. Lesser teams than this year's Purdue team have won it all before. Just get on a roll and hope for some luck.

While we are resting the wounded and preparing for MD, the Terps have a tough week at O$U today and then the late game at Nebraska on Wednesday. When we had the late game at Minny last Wednesday, we couldn't even practice on Thursday due to the very late return, and MD will be in much the same shape in prepping for their Saturday game with Purdue. We need to really take advantage of this situation...this is a week for the coaching staff to shine on game prep. I hope they're up to it. As CGK would often say: "It's not who you play...it's when you play them", and we certainly have the timing advantage on our side for the first of our big February games.

Over the years, Painter and staff have shown to be some of the best in preparing. However, executing it, in my opinion, has been the struggle this year.

Outside of Maryland just being good, I think Maryland presents a tough match up for Purdue in terms of our typical advantages, in my opinion.

-I don't think our perimeter defense is where it needs to be with dribble penetration. Maryland shoots a good number of 3s, but typically isn't great making them. A lot of their offense comes from dribble penetration, which Purdue's struggled with lately. To slow them down offensively, we need to make them take more outside shots - and hope they don't have an on game - and our interior defense has to be solid, which it's been hit and miss.

-Maryland also has great size - with Layman (6'9"), Carter (6'9") and Stone (6'11") all being starters.

And Maryland's scoring is very balanced. They have 5 players averaging double digits.

This isn't simply a game where defensively, we can stick Davis on someone and hamper their offense. Guessing he'll be on Sulaimon, Edwards on Layman, Swanigan on Carter.

On offense, don't expect things to come easy. Maryland's defense is actually better than their offense - and have held opponents to under 40% shooting in the Big Ten (Purdue is giving up 44%) and is #1 in 3 point FG defense (Purdue is 8th).

Overall, Purdue's gotta win the battles it can - this is a game we could be outrebounded in. We have to be strong on the boards, particularly the offensive glass. Especially playing on the road, dominating on the boards can really suck the life out of the opponent. Maryland and Purdue both have negative turnover margins - if we can win that battle, that would be quite helpful. This is a game where we'll need more FG attempts than MD to win. In other losses, we've seen big rebounding margins only to have turnovers give the other team more FG attempts. Even yesterday, we had 6 more turnovers than Nebraska. They had 6 more FG attempts than we did. Obviously other factors involved, but it's a trend.

And the "storyline" for this game will be a senior Hammons vs. a freshman Stone. AJ's gotta come to play.

Some more thoughts: Play one game at a time. Get the entire team healthy and ready to go Saturday. And don't mess with Heller. Btfu!
