On college realignment.. this whole video is interesting, but particularly the part about the big ten, AAU and research universities

Steve got on a roll there. Lost me a bit at the end talking about Big Ten moving to protect other AAU schools. The Big Ten will do what is in its best interest, much like the SEC. It just so happens that if the Big Ten decides to expand (for financial reasons), AAU is a big part of the equation when selecting new members.

To me if there is a super conference, the AAU schools offer a good opportunity to make a second mega conference that may keep the schools in it in play for TV deals and big games.

Especially since I don’t know if teams looking to join a 16-24 team super conference realize it.. but if you’re consistently in that 13-24 range.. it’s probably not good long term …

I'd love to see am AAU league (BT PAC10, Ivy League) with more stringent acceptance standards and the elimination of fluff degrees. You'd have the top two alumni head count leagues and the deepest pockets of the Top 3 Leagues.

so essentially splitting the current FBS minor league system into say 3 tiers like the AAA/AA/A's.

AAA = new SEC, priortize $ and athletics
AA = new Big10/AAU, prioritize academics more
A = remaining group of 5/mid majors (those that can last, or maybe move to FCS)

I don't know if I'd be a big fan of being in the Communist Colleges of California and players (CCCP).

While there is no doubt you would tap into a large segment of TV viewers, there is a tremendous amount of baggage that comes with it. Including just physically getting out there to play games and their 3 hours behind so TV viewing may be odd.

I do like the idea of the B10 getting to 16 teams (2 divisions of 8) just t need the right schools that bring similar values to the conference. SEC has sold out and has/will become the NFL light with $$$$ and the corruption that follows.

B10 would be wise to partner with like minded schools that reinforce values, character, and integrity at the amateur level of college sports.

I think as long as OSU and UM are in the conference they will be steering the Big Ten toward competing at the AAA level. Now if the "others" in the conference band together and decide enough is enough and tell OSU and UM that they want to lean into the AAU/academics, then the conference could start heading down the AA path, with OSU and possibly others seceding for the AAA league.

We are blessed to have the Rev. Coach Leo to exemplify those value for the btn.

While I think that's exceedingly unlikely, I wouldn't shed a tear. It would be nice if they could take Rutgers and Maryland with them, if it happens. :D
I’m more talking about how these guys relay the dynamics involved here, how this is all pushed by espn, the back door dealings in the SEC and with Texas and Oklahoma, the big ten and the pac ten and also the AAU and academic research money

How long can the cornpoppers get away with not being in the AAU, dragging the rep of the btn down? N is for knowledge and all that.

Indefinitely?

Michigan guy on the national board is saying duke, unc, and g tech may be all coming to the b1g and possibly fsu as well. Apparently the people who run the Michigan rivals have some inside info. Figured I’d pass it along, take it with a grain of salt though.

I’d like all those schools other than FSU as only unc would probably beat us most of the time

Why? That is just a dumb alignment that makes zero sense. Hopefully , the source is wrong. If we were to re-align, it would be better to keep a midwestern feel, and put MD and Rut out. I sure miss the days where it was the midwest vs west coast vs southeast.

I feel the same as you but I think if that was true it would be to increase the footprint tv market wise.

I’d only be happy if that were the case because at least we aren’t adding mega programs
