Lots of transfers from Ohio State....3 post-season + 1 mid-season.

Not sure what the situation is. The 3 post-season transfers are all freshmen who were all seeing a good chunk of PT. Certainly not their 3 best players, but interesting to see a big group of freshmen go. From their interactions on Twitter with former players, sounds like they felt Matta was playing favorites?

Handling basketball players has always been tough - but especially in this generation, I absolutely do not envy being a basketball coach.

It also sucks for Matta because they had 0 seniors this year, so it's not like they've been hard on the recruiting trail. They will return 7 scholarship players.

Giddens 6/10 center was rated 51 rivals out of HS and had 14 offers....so prob destination is one of those other offers he sees more PT.

Mickey Mitchell 6'7" forward was rated about ~117 and is from TX area...Baylor and TX AM also offered so maybe he is seeing more PT at one of them or a smaller TX school.

2 players from MSU and MIch are also transferring according to the above source.

They have been on a steady decline for 5 straight years now. Remember when Matta was pulling in a different 5 star freshman big man and 5 star wing every year? And they were winning the conference and making deep tourney runs with ease. Maybe some of it is other programs around them getting better - Xavier, Cincy, Purdue, IU.. But with the transfers on top of it all, seems like things are starting to get off the track in C'bus.

4 out of 5 players from their class that was rated 5th nationally transferred after one year. That's insane.

I think we are just going to see more and more of it unfortunately. Kids today, particularly the high 4 and 5 star recruits, want immediate gratification. They've been hard wired to expect everything on demand. That's one reason I don't get too caught up in how many 5 star players we recruit. Give me VE any day.

Matta has always played "favorites" so to speak. His teams have always had a featured player and a bunch of guys who played supporting roles. That is his basic approach to basketball. "Evan Turner" basketball.

Maybe this year his approach has catch up with him. He broought in a great class, and could not find a way to keep them all happy. I guess you have to run plays for more than one guy. (I exaggerate - to some degree).

Never been a fan of Thad Matta or his style of basketball, even though he has been pretty successful. Just don't like the way his teams play.

I'd take Giddens as a big, pass on Mich.'s Doyle, MSU's Clark is good.

Just a wild guess but did one of his main recruiters as his Assistant Coach leave the program to go on to bigger and better things over this time period?

This reminds me of coaches perhaps getting away from their culture when I read Penn, Sully and Diebler takes

Well, I'm absolutely not defending the transfers (particularly because engaging in Twitter complaining is pretty low), but those 3 Ohio State players were all very good players who never dealt with "adversity" when it came to playing time and winning. It's a piece of cake when you're winning.
