Official new coach thread for ND and OU

Pat Fitzgerald might be looking for a change at this stage of his career. Would not surprise me and he seems to run his programs the right way (i.e. Respectable and not cheating).

No comment on Matt Campbell as I do not pay any attention to Iowa State.

Heard the Fitz rumor from a NW grad, not an ND fan. He said there had been contact although didn't know who initiated it. Also, Fitz is a class act which Kelly was not.

Got the Campbell rumor from an OK State grad and that seems to be pure Big XII grapevine rumor.

It seems like Matt Campbell has been the go-to name for more than a year now. You would think he would get a look somewhere this year, even if it's not ND. Luke Fickell has to be at the top of everyone's list too, even though he's saying all the right things about staying at Cincinnati. Kliff Kingsbury is thought of as the #1 option for OU, but I couldn't see him wanting to leave the situation he's at. Mark Stoops?

I think Notre Dame fans will lose their minds if they hire Pat Fitzgerald.....he of the below .500 Big Ten record.

In 1964 ND hired NW coach Ara Parseghian, who was 36-35-1 for .507. Pat Fitzgerald is 109-90 for .548.
I'd caution that football has changed a bunch in the last 50 years and these two things are not remotely equivalent but if someone thinks Pat Fitzgerald is the next Ara Parseghian, I'm more than happy to see Notre Dame hire him. My prediction is that he won't be good enough to satisfy Notre Dame and he's probably just good enough to be considered good at Northwestern so there's a decent chance their next hire may be worse. Both things would be good for Purdue.
