Saturday's 24 points was the most against Penn State since 2003, when Purdue won 28-14.

Also notable is the fact that all 24 point came in the first 3 quarters when game was close enough to run normal offense.

A bright spot, which highlights how a replacement level OC with replacement level D1 players can put points on the board against good defense. Our biggest need is a coach who can recruit and develop an influx of talent on the defensive side of the ball. There are multiple ways to skin this cat, including the Tiller/Spack method of attracting high school athletes with a wide open offense, then converting some of these athletes to defense. So, whether an offensive or defensive minded coach, the defense will benefit if the guy can recruit.

Game was out of hand when the last TD was scored. First half was good. They adjusted and shut down the short passing game. It was over at that point.

Was their ability to shut down the short passing game talent or scheme related. I actually liked the playcalling throughout the game but as you stated it just seemed like they had all the routes covered after the first half.

Also, I was wondering if our offense would be more effective if this team could play at a faster pace. It seems like if you're gonna run this dink and dunk offense, and your o-line is less than stellar, it would make sense to keep the defense constantly on its toes.

34-24 in the third quarter isn't out of hand.
Regardless, point was the majority of the Purdue scoring (if not all) was outside of garbage time. Many past Purdue teams (and this year's Ohio State) would have loved to score 24 against Penn State. Even Tiller teams generally did not score that many. Offense, on the whole, is not what is holding this team back, and the new coach should have a serviceable offense from day 1. Returning the defense to respectability will get us to a bowl game. When Purdue was at its best under Tiller we were winning these games 24-23, not 63-62.

should have been closer and a couple of things could have changed the game, when the call about out of bounds came and Yancy dropping a TD pass right to him in the end zone, maybe it wouldn't have changed the outcome but the team wouldn't have been so deflated in the 3rd quarter

jones did step out (barely) and on the Yancey pass, im pretty sure i saw the DB put his hand in there to deflect it before it got to yancey.

I saw Yancy drop the pass, it looked like the defender did reach in but Yancy didn't make much effort to catch the pass, didn't get a good look at Jones stepping out, was going by how the players were reacting and what others were saying after watching the review, I didn't see the review on the screen, just wish it would have been different, team could use a few breaks and good plays

The defender definitely knocked that ball away at the last second. Yancey gets so much crap on here lol some of it is maybe deserved but it's a little over the top. Was a great play by the cornerback

ok the defender did hit the ball , I just wish I could say great catch by Yancy more than I complain about his dropping passes , the guy is doing what he can, I shouldn't be calling players out , will water it down, I guess I expect more from Yancy

I think a lot of people see his physical tools and think of guys playing on Sundays with similar size and speed. But there are other components to being a great wideout - hand/eye coordination, concentration, technique, footwork - which are often taken for granted. We are desperate for one who has it all because its been awhile since we had the total package, and obviously the guys with the other skills can't grow into NFL size/speed/athleticism.

Dropped punt turned the tide. The D had a great series to push'em back and make'em punt. Really deflating to take the field again after the drop.

I think that broke us, especially coming right after our other turnover that gave them a short field.
