Now that Aiden has decided to come back, will there be any Heisman talk. Does Purdue get the PR machine going?
A great showing in the bowl game would help as would Bell playing.

Anything is possible. He has plenty of targets next year as long as the O-line holds up.

In a perfect world yeah, the hype machine would be rolling. I'd like to see him play a couple games well first.

Bell is not playing. Neither is George.

AOC couldn't carry a water bottle in the NFL.
Aidan O'Connell will play in the NFL. He's already better than the QB's that have started against Dallas the past two weeks (Taysom Hill-New Orleans & Taylor Heinicke-Washington). There are some really mediocre QB's playing in the NFL right now.

Right now he would be an UFA. You think he will improve his stock that much?
Yes… the major things holding him back in my view were his injury last year and brohm erring on the side of his scholarship guy, who holds the ball about a half hour longer with the same personnel … this year

he’s gonna come out without David bell, hit the ground running, be drafted at least mid rounds and then become a NFL success story

He was responding to someone saying that O’Connell couldn’t carry a water bottle in the NFL.

So I both think that he is correct that FUGS has no idea what makes a good qb, and also I don’t understand what being a lower draft pick or an UFA has to do with his post or the one he was responding to.

Even an UFA is miles ahead of water boy and many still have successful NFL careers.

Romo was ufa call who got a tryout with the cowboys as a receiver .. the QB who was supposed to throw to the receivers couldn’t be there and the rest was history

And now we have to suffer with his announcing career.

Yeah, not sure where Fugs came up with that idea. But yeah I most likely not someone that understands quarterback talent and what it takes to succeed at the next level. Pretty sure AOC checks a lot of the boxes including the ability to look off receivers and stay in the pocket.

Both of those things are more critical than athleticism. There’s been a ton of NFL caliber quarterbacks who can’t read more than one read so they don’t make it past their first game action

I am not sitting here telling anyone that O’Connell is a guaranteed success at the next level. He does not have elite arm strength and because of that he will have to do a lot of other things well to be successful.

IMO he has good enough accuracy, processes information fast enough and gets rid of the ball quick enough to make it in the NFL. The question in my mind is his gunslinger mentality and his willingness to take risks. In the NFL that can get you in trouble quick. He did great the last 5 games of not taking too many risks while still pushing the ball down the field. If that continues he has a shot.

I would say Aidan will be top 20 in the preseason polls. Going to get overshadowed by Stroud and Young obviously. Looking at our schedule I think he should have a shot if we win some more games than this season.

Most people don’t understand that you can have whatever arm or athleticism you want.. but if you can’t process fast, make accurate throws to players on the run, throws in tight windows and throw to where guys are going, not where they are.. it doesn’t matter.

I was a fan of AOC’s game since the 2019 OOB where he almost pulled it off. Thought he showed a lot of moxie and defended him as being at least an avg B1G QB before he proved me wrong this year and was clearly in the upper part of the league.

But realistically, no. No way he’s in consideration for the Heisman short of throwing for 4,000 yards on a 10-2 Boilers squad. I guess anything’s possible, but it would be a stunner and he should immediately sell the movie rights to Disney.

Isn’t CJ Stroud only a true sophomore? Not sure you can even talk about him jumping him for first team all big ten.

I must have missed the movie for baker mayfield. TIC. I wouldn’t say no way he would be considered but to answer the initial question I would not expect he would even be in the discussion at the start of the season.

I wouldn't think so either but you just never know. Kenneth Walker was a transfer. Before he rolled into west Lafayette he was the front runner for the heisman. You just don't know.

Who is more accurate at passing the football in college that any of you have watched. Big statement but a fact. Consider Bernie Kosar, Brees, etc. This kid is there.

He will have the stats next year, Abdul will become the next David Bell (per se) and others will step up. Sampson James will open up the running game at least some for play action…record will need to be 10-2/11-1 though and that will be more about defense…GK going high in draft will help us land a transfer or 2 who impact in that general area…one never knows the impact/image we have with AOC coming back

Brees was top 4 his senior year, correct? I can’t really see AOC outdoing Brees. Drew also ran for 400 yard or something. Love what AOC did, but I’m not sure there is much of a real case.

I wouldn’t call James a shoe in to beat out Doerue

I mean the last 5 games of the year O’Connell averaged 372 ypg, 3 TDs and O Ints. That extrapolates out to nearly 4,500 yards and 36 TDs.

He threw for over 3000 yards this year and he didn’t play at all in 1 game and didn’t come in until the second half of 3 others. So he could have had 4000 yds this season.

Obviously it may not be probable that he is up for Heisman but it is certainly possible. He just has to duplicate the half season he has this year across an entire season.

He might have thrown for 800 yards with a full game against UConn

The Heisman is a popularity contest and to be honest, it's kind of disappointing that it seems to be going to the same schools for about the last 5-6 years. Yeh, guys from Bama and OK are good and their on good teams that are basically surrounded by NFL talent.
Would just like to see them spread the wealth a little bit and recognize someone from a non-top 5 program.

Yet another reason why I don’t like how we schedule. Schedule one P5 team preseason. Win that.. have a good Purdue team.. and maybe we can be 10-2, 11-1 and our guy has a shot

In a world where Chris Weinke beats Drew Brees for the Heisman, I'd say AOC doesn't have a shot. Drew was the best player in football, but he was on the wrong team.

Agree 100%. Although Drew had a bad game late vs MSU and then Tiller ran the ball against iu to secure the Rose Bowl when he could have let Drew throw for 500 yrs and 6 TDs to win some style points.
That's why if they think AO has any shot, the PU AD and media relations dept has to get the hype train going early and often.

Does this mean he'll be competing against Plummer for the Heisman? They must be pretty close talent wise because Brohm chose Plummer as the starter to begin the season and after the Minnesota game there was a question who would start the rest of the season.

I'm ecstatic that AOC is coming back but lets keep it somewhat real.

I think he went with Plummer because of his mobility. Who could foresee Plummer freezing up when it's game time? He might be a killer in practice but couldn't pull the trigger when the chips were on the table.
