Number 6 on the board

Makes since that recruits are coming from Kentucky and places that brohm is familiar with. Am I the only one that is happy that we are getting recruits that are being offered by other power 5 schools?

If Brohm maintains this quality of recruits in the rest of the class, and with his coaching, Purdue football is going to be fun to watch again!

I would hope that all of our commitments have offers from power 5 schools. Purdue is a power 5 school, those are the type and talent level of players we should be targeting and recruiting. it concerns me when we target a player who has received no other power 5 offers.

Generally agree when you are looking at skill players. Disagree on linemen. There aren't enough opportunities for evaluation imo for linemen

Brohm seems to be able to sell the vision that they can be part of getting us back to being relevant again and being part of something special. This is something that Hazell could not sell to recruits, because he did not believe it himself. Brohm does believe that, and I think he is going to be able to do it.

Well said, and I believe in Brohm too

I would slightly disagree. I will agree lineman are scarce as opposed to skilled players. and there are probably not enough 3/4/5 * linemen to go around. But my point is we should be going after the same linemen - even if they are only a 2* - that other power 5 schools are targeting.

Notice I did not say ALA, Mich or OSU. I said other power 5 schools. if a player is not good enough to warrant interest from minn, IU, ILL, UK, Northwestern, Vandy, WF, etc. I have to wonder why he's good enough for Purdue? and why purdue is targeting him

This is the type of player I want to see Brohm targeting and signing. I don't know or care how many stars he has or his position. And I don't care. if he's good enough generate interest from those other schools, that's the player I want to come to Purdue.

It isn't a scarcity issue, it's a misevaluation issue. 7 on 7 camps are for skill positions. There is no equivalent for linemen. Hence my exposure comment

Hazell could sell it early but a coach only has so long to sell that before the evidence on the field starts to contradict the vision he's trying to sell. Brohm should be able to sell it right now because of his track record at EKU. He'll have to get the performance on the field moving in the right direction to keep selling it though. Fortunately, I think he'll do just that if we can figure out a way to protect the QB whatsoever.

You are correct. What does brohm have to do in his first couple seasons in order to land good rated recruits?

I would agree with the majority of the last three comments. In Hazell's first year, he was able to sell the vision and the program, and he received verbal commitments from some quality recruits, and quality 4* recruits even attended his first Summer camp.. His vision was to bring Purdue back on track. And his early commitments bought what he was selling. And then the season started, and you saw recruits start to leave. And as the season progressed, he was not able to attract any quality recruits to fill the holes created, or to complete his class with quality recruits. A lot of quality recruits looked, but signed elsewhere. and after the first year, the quality recruits stopped looking.

If Hazell had to do it over again, I think he may have followed Brohm's lead and completed that first recruiting class that Hope left him with JUCos and transfers rather than projects that required redshirting. that would have led to a few more wins, and maybe better recruiting results. Looking back, Hazell added about 10 players to the recruiting class Hope left him. Just think if 5-8 those recruits were jucos. We may have won a couple of our closer games.

What you're seeing now is recruits buying into what Brohm is selling. Most of your elite recruits are a little skeptical and taking a wait and see approach. What does Brohm need to do to attract the elite recruits? Simply stated - WIN ! he has to prove his system works and can compete.

An elite recruit is not going to be swayed by immediate playing time, because they expect to receive it anywhere they go. More and more top ranked schools are giving freshmen and sophomores significant playing time and starting them. So if you're a n elite recruit, you expect to be able to beat out the incumbent for playing time. that's a great sell for mediocre recruits, but not elite ones.

I like everything Brohm has done so far. but in order to sell his vision, and recruit better players, he has to prove he can win with the players he currently has. if he can somehow win 5-6 games with this current team, I believe he may be able to sway some elite recruits in December. if he can't produce wins, and IU and Illinois and Minn can, it's going to be very hard to sell to any recruit.

Which came first the chicken or the egg? Do you have to win in order to get good recruits or do you have to have good recruits in order to win?

In most cases, you have to win first. However, Purdue's history has shown Purdue attracts a lot of good recruits that look elsewhere when the season starts and we start losing. Purdue has had a lot of quality recruits consider us or place us in their top 5! But when they see the end results, they look and sign elsewhere. We lost a couple of potentially 4* recruits to MSU, Louisville and Cincy last year that were considering Purdue. But in the end, chose a winner.

The key is to get the quality recruits to commit. And then keep them by showing we can win with lesser talent. And that's very hard to do. If Brohm can pull out 5-6 wins this year, I believe several of those elite players who may be considering us in their top 5 will actually see the difference and sign with us.

Or we could be like Mississippi , Missouri(basketball) and find one guy who is a magnet and will have others attracted to play with him.

Something to think about. Our last 4 recruiting classes were admittedly not the best. But in each year, there were several 4* athletes who were strongly considering Purdue. If we had been able to sign 1-2 of them each year, we would have seen our recruiting rating hover around 45-50 in the rankings, And we would have been able to win a couple more games each year.

But there is a huge difference in getting an elite player to sign and saying Purdue was my second choice. Being a second choice doesn't win ball games.
