Number 25 (for 2017 class) kinda

he says he's eligible for 2 years. So this also kind of effects our amount of scholarships available for next year. his addition poses the question: is he going to be a walk-on or did he take the remaining 2017 scholarship? it sounds like he accepted a scholarship. I guess as the other thread pointed out, we had one scholarship to give for the 2017 class.

this also poses the question. We currently have 3 other kickers and 2 punters on our roster. Are Dellinger, Homan or Brunner on scholarship or preferred walk-ons? Are either punters Schopper or Herr on scholarship ? I thought a couple were walk-ons. That's a lot of kickers and punters just for one team.

One article I read said he is the #1 kicker in the 2017 class. it also said because of Baylor's issues, he sat out the entire 2016 season. and was only their kick-off guy in 2014 and 2015. So he's never kicked an actual real game Fg or extra point. although he's kicked a 75 yard FG in practice in 2014 and an 80 yd FG in practice in 2015.

but as the article said, he's rated as the #1 kicker in the 2017 class. he's rated as a 5* recruit which would make me happy. and he chose us over Arizona, Texas, Houston, NC State, Missouri.

the rivals link said it would not confirm if he would be a walk-on or scholarship, but assumed a player of his skills would be offered a scholarship.

Definitely a surprise, but a very pleasant surprise.

Awesome. Love this pickup for multiple reasons. First of all he looks like he should be pretty good. Second it shows where all this coaching staff has gone to get players in the 8 months they've been here. Grad transfers, JUCO, regular transfers from a troubled program, and potentially athletes playing other sports as well. We will see how well they do with the talent but it's encouraging that their search seems so thorough.

Dellinger and schopper are on schollie

If you haven't noticed, the amount of transfer and influx of talent Brohm is bringing in shows truly how inept Hazell was. As Brohm said himself, without these young men coming in...no way are they even able to compete next season.
Thank goodness Bobinski made the coaching change and got Brohm. What a difference it makes to get competent people in place.

that was my biggest criticism of Hazell when he arrived as a coach. Admittedly, he arrived late. But he had 6 weeks to both retain Hope's recruiting class, and also add about 10 of his own recruits to that class. and it was obvious to everyone that Purdue had some glaring holes. But rather than going the juco and transfer route as a quick fix to fill those holes, Hazell went after more high school projects and also some quality players at positions we were already strong at. and the holes remained unfilled. it was very obvious that Hazell did very little player research on this team before signing that first class.

on the other hand, that was the first thing Brohm did. he evaluated our team strengths/weaknesses, and went after players that would provide us a chance to COMPETE and WIN now. I looked at Brohm's recruiting history at WKU, and he very rarely went after a Juco or transfer. but at Purdue, he seems to be the BIG 10 master of the transfer. From my standpoint, Brohm wants to win now rather than having 5 more years of rebuilding. And he's using every avenue to do so. it's a totally different philosophy.

if Evans proves to be the real deal, does Dellinger RS?

They could take Dellinger off of scholarship.

A move like this shows me there isn't much faith in Dellinger. This could be the beginning of the end for him at Purdue. For the record, I didn't think Dellinger was that bad for a freshman, but CJB doesn't make this move if he thinks Dellinger is a serviceable Big Ten kicker.

Side note: I am so happy we took a player away from Baylor. They should have had their ability to have a football team revoked for four years in my opinion. Taking away their kicker, who happens to be one of college football's better kickers, makes it even better. Will be a tough loss for them and a great gain for us. BTFU.

He was already gone from Baylor. He was at a CC and didn't play for all.

I had thought Dellinger was highly thought of when he came to Purdue. He was supposedly one of Hazell's better recruits. This is definitely not a vote of confidence. Although Evans had not kicked a fg or xp in 2 years at Baylor. He was just a kickoff specialist. I hate using 2 scholarships on kickers.

He is fine from inside 40 yards. He doesnt have a lot of leg power.

this is why I mentioned before about him doing a RS to physically get stronger. He was 10-14 on FG's last year but was very under developed physically.

Yeah, i figured that is why you said it, but i really dont buy into RS specialists. Either you have a strong leg or you dont.
