Not that we need another reason to loathe ESPN...

Well, I don't know what else to say about the sinking ship that was formerly a good place for sports news....at least the NCAA is providing some reports of it. IF Team USA can strike Gold, I think there'll be some coverage.....it would be really nice to see another win tomorrow. Liking what I've seen so far.

it would appear to get any coverage on ESPN, there has to be some story about some hardship an athlete has suffered like blindside. they are no longer interested in covering sports and scores.

Ever seen any Brewers highlights on ESPN ? only if they are playing the Cubs or Cardinals.

Hey, the Brewers just took 2 out of three from the Dodgers....in LA. First series the Dodgers have lost in like 2 months....they are 52-16 in Chavez Ravine. Brewers are now 3 and 1/2 games out of the NL Wildcard.....calling on the spirits of Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, Rollie Fingers, Gorman Thomas, and Ben Ogilvie!

exactly !!! see any highlights of their games on ESPN ?? Doubtful.

I did a search for articles about Kansas playing in it two years ago. There was one after they won gold but I didn't find anything prior to that.
Exactly. People are either forgetting that this event wasn't all that big a deal even when KU played in it, or, they never knew it to begin with. It's basically an international pick-up game tournament that isn't really tied to anything of significance. It wasn't all over ESPN when KU played in it, just as it isn't today. It's not bias, it's lack of importance of the event.

When a team wins (a US team at least), there's kind of a "so what" about it. Case in point: here's the USA basketball website's WUG page... they don't even have it updated to show Kansas winning it 2 years ago. USA is expected to win... we've been participating since the mid-60's and USA hasn't lost 10 games total... out of over 150 games.

The value to Purdue is not in the recognition of winning, rather it's playing real games in August, which other teams aren't doing. And while that can be incredibly valuable, that's really about it. That's not to take anything away from the team and participating in it; it's actually a pretty cool thing that would be nice to see become more popular.

I still think the games at least have an impact on recruiting. if you are a shooting guard, you should see painter loves to shoot the three, So you'd want to play for us. and if you're good, painter is not afraid to play freshmen. . While not receiving much publicity, I have to believe our targets are watching the games.

I'm kind of disappointed in the overall coverage, because I thought these university games involved more than just basketball. I thought track and other sports were represented.

I didn't.

But, to be fair, I wouldn't really know of their actual existence, Wole, as I watch very little ESPN these days outside of some actual sporting events, and even those are probably of a much lesser volume. Their tennis coverage is still decent in comparison to the other sports, which have "gone off the rails" IMO.

That said/written, I was saddened when Chris Berman lost his wife recently in a tragic car accident.

Unless they were to actually air the games live, I would never know if they covered it anyway because I don't think I've watched anything on that network other than live sporting events for at least a couple of years. They can continue their evolution from being a "sports" network to a social engineering one without my viewership. NFL is right behind them since the players seem to think I should care what they think. Let them do it on someone else's dime/time.

22 sports, including basketball, billiards, table tennis, badminton, golf, and track & field.

I thought some SIU track athletes were competing. We have some representing several countries including some Olympic hopefuls in some type of world games. I thought this was it.

Honestly surprised they didn't gather a League of Legends portion of the WUG considering the location in Asia and the propensity of online gaming in the Asian market.

That might be a competition in and of itself, JDB. I have seen some highlights of how certain gaming contests go.....it's something. I would have to apply for the "Super Senior" nostalgia division.

You do realise that USA has only won once since 2005? Also in 2015 a stacked Kansas team got to add two high level players to their roster ? Let's not undervalue this achievement if it happens
