Really a key game to get the 2nd season going. Wonder if weather is causing any travel problems.

This is a big game for a number of reasons....in no particular order....

1. Opening Big Ten play on the right note. It's going to be a competitive league and slip-ups have to be minimal.

2. This venue is not easy to play at, no matter the quality of team.

3. Playing on the road in the Big Ten in general is tough. Get wins where you can. Playing Wisconsin early and when students aren't around is good. I'd rather play this game now than play them on the road in February.

4. This is only our 2nd true road game of the year. We did well at Pitt, but had some shaky stretches. Our seniors need to step up and play with authority.

I just wanted to mention something I thought interesting last year. Normally when AJ comes to play and gets the look, no center can spot him. He always dominates the match-up when he wants to. Both offensively and defensively. The only time I have ever seen this not be the case is when he played Kaminsky last year in the BTT. It was the first and only time I have seen AJ actually trying his hardest and still get basically dominated by another center. He was the most frustrated I had ever seen in a game. Kaminsky took AJ out of everything he wanted to do on offense and I think Kaminsky was also having his way with him inside when Painter switch off Edwards for Hammons in the 2nd half of that game. He is the only guy I can recall that really bested AJ when AJ tried his hardest.
Maybe people can remember other times this happened but this really stuck out to me.
Kaminsky was a damn good player and I am glad he is gone.

Maybe just a little...

Perhaps a "crash" course from Yukon is in order....

Can see this game going either way tonight.

Totally agree with the last sentence. This is where you need to count on Ray Davis and AJH, especially to bridge the "inevitable" rough stretches.

Going to be a battle at Kohl. I'm looking for a very tight game and one that we have to just fight our way through. Nothing easy in that building. I'm hoping with Bo gone they don't get their usual 30 free throws!!

Kind of eerily quiet. This game is arguably more important than the Butler and Vandy games, for which there seemed to be more build up. I wonder if people are like me- I just don't know what to make of this post Kaminsky/Dekker/Ryan Badger team. Have not seen them play enough to know whether to expect their usual next man up Bo ball transformation or if this is truly a down year for them.

Double digit win. Whiskey is done. We can bury them next to Rutgers.
Next to Rutgers is probably stretching it, but yeah, this should be an easy win for Purdue. Wisconsin is a shell of their former self, losing home games left and right, blowing big leads, limited offensive capabilities, working under a new coach (no matter how "Ryan-like" he might be, there will be changes in routine, etc.). Plus the students are gone, so the atmosphere will be reduced; they're couldn't be a better opportunity to get a road win to start conference play. I like your prediction... double digit victory.

Wisconsin doesn't have Bo anymore so that is a bit of an unknown. I also want to see how we do with Hayes. He's going to draw whoever his matchup is away from the basket so I want to see how we respond. I haven't watched enough of them to be able to say if he'll drawn haas/hammons or biggie but if it's the latter he could have a field day playing from the perimeter.

From reading some of the Wisky forums (can't seem to find a definitive forum for basketball), their fans seem to think this won't be a game and Purdue goes away winning easily. All we need to do is double Hayes and Bronsig (sp?) and we will be fine. That said, I am nervous before any Purdue game and won't feel good until we have the W and the clock has run out.

He's shooting 38% from the floor and 31% from 3. I can live with that.

I hope this doesn't come back to bite me........I think Hayes is a very nice complimentary player. When he had Decker and Kaminsky on the floor with him he could shine. Now that he doesn't have near that talent level around him his weaknesses are much more exposed.

Ray is going to start out on Hayes.

As he should. I'm guessing he will mostly shut him down like he does most opponents.

This game is not getting much hype because Wisky is bad, and we are expected to win easily.

Two other things...

-Wisconsin is not in the top tier in the Big Ten on many things. But one thing they are is rebounding. Obviously not giving Wisconsin extra possessions is big, considering their defense isn't as good as it usually is and their offense is not that great. They lead the league in offensive rebounds.

-That leads into turnovers. We can't give up a bunch of turnovers, giving Wisconsin extra possessions.

I wouldno so quickly discount the atmosphere being dead since students won't be there. The Vandy crowd was still rocking last week without our students.

That being said..the fact that we are a top 15 team and Wisconsin having a rough year makes a big differene.

I expect to win this game, but wouldn't be shocked to see it go the other way.

Expected to win easily? We're favored by 4 1/2 in LV. That's less than the Butler game. I expect a very challenging game.
