Couldn't have cost the university more than $30k. That's approx. one student's undergrad tuition. I feel like this is a loss of good publicity, especially in a heavily IU favored area. Anyone have more info as to why Purdue forwent the expense this year?

If you live in the burbs you will pass 5+ IU messages. IU is on every hospital and GP. Billboards and radio.

IU owns Indiana. It isn't a point of discussion.

Purdue is complacent with being niche.

While you may know my thoughts about Purdue being afraid to promote itself, I'm guessing it was a cost/benefit. The average state fair day sees 50,000 people? And that's every single person that comes in and out of the gate - even if it's a 20 minute trip to go see one thing - or someone coming just to see a concert. Bringing all of those people and resources down there for that one day is probably not worth it, I can understand that. The question is - what are they doing instead?

I also would say state fairs have changed over the years - it's much more about entertainment and such more so than the "educational"/career type of things now.

Having one day be Purdue day is probably not worth the resources (not just money).

Every day IU ensures that it is IU day.

I have a connection to the State Fair. Purdue overtook what used to be the Ball State Ag/Hort Building, so now it's the Purdue Ag/Hort Building. Better to have your name associated with a building year round instead of just one day.
