If you just look at raw athletic talent, Louisville & UNC are both Top 5, maybe Top 3. Purdue is built more with elite size & strength than raw athleticism. So banning one or both of those teams increases Purdue's chances of advancing in the later rounds of the Tournament greatly.

Wow! The credibility of the NCAA will be tested by this one. The recruiting success that Pitino had during this time period is hard to ignore.

IMO, the penalty should be at least 10x greater in magnitude than the penalty that Purdue got for Luther Clay receiving loan from a local banker that he was allegedly not expected to repay in the 90's.
