New Poster (1/3) and (2/3) and (3/3)

This is pretty well done actually. But if this is the stuff the athletic department is authoring, it's time for Purdue to put up or shut up in the Crossroads Classic to get a W.

Not sure it is relevant, but just more interesting that a poster that highlights "OUR STATE" and is in the shape of Indiana features a player from out of state.

I actually think the posters are great, but what's the message? We're trying to win Indiana?
Doesn't the fact that the message is not clear pretty well sum up the ineffectiveness of the campaign, whatever it may be?

DG: Is there anything you like about Purdue Men's Basketball? I get it you don't like CMP and you are frustrated with recruiting, but do you have to be negative about everything? It's a poster with the schedule on it, what do you want?

He does have a point. What is the message they're trying to convey? That Purdue is working to be the best in the state? That Purdue gets (or wants) the best players in the state? Is this akin to the "State of Purdue" that came about on the football side a couple years ago? Is it representative of the pride of playing for this state? Or is it overly simplistic and tying back merely to the shape of the poster? And truthfully, it really doesn't matter what the message is... as you said, it's just a schedule, so the lack of clarity is of little consequence. But I think his point remains - negative or not - the "statement" at the top has a bit of oddness to it. However, the graphics are cool and would make for a good magnet design.

You just reinforced my point...It's a friggin poster with the schedule on it.

I guess I'm just worn out with all the negative recruiting dialogue and the CMP negative comments. I respect peoples' right to not like CMP or to be frustrated with how recruiting has gone so far this year. I have even agreed that I'm getting worried about 2017 class, but man, could we just let the poster be what it is? It's a way to get fans excited about the coming season with a schedule on it.

I'm done now.

I don't disagree with your larger point. The negativity vortex can get to a person if you let it. I'm not defending the negativity, but in fairness to DG, there was no mention of Painter in his response. I don't think it's a surprise to anyone that for years the athletic department has had a mild case of identify crisis going on with poor marketing campaigns (Makers All, is that even still around any more?), poor ability to connect with fans, give them the gameday experiences the want, etc. Maybe it's hard to separate the sweeping discontent into the components to which it truly relates anymore, but I took his comment to be more a shot at the misguided marketing arm of the athletic office. Just my 2 cents to clarify my earlier comment. But again, your broader point is not lost on me.

In fairness I shouldn't have quoted DG and called just him out on it. I just thought that at least one thread could be positive about the school/program. You're right, I'm caught in the negativity vortex and I want out. :)

These schedule posters are for the fans - not sure if they give them to recruits. I like the idea of asserting ourselves as a powerhouse basketball school from Indiana, using the shape of the state. That said, I *really* liked last year's schedule poster with the backlit team & shadowed out faces. I also liked photoshopping in an accessory for Isaac...

Statey alluded to it/covered it, but obviously there is some sort of message behind it...a marketing campaign of some sort (or attempted one at least), and, my point was that it missed (again) in that it not only was not clear, but it was not even discernible.

Sure it is a cool picture of the player included...but why even have the message, especially if it is one that does not make much (any?) sense, and why have it in the shape of the state (as that as well makes no sense...to be brutally honest, is it not part of the actual logo of the alleged arch rival program for that matter?)?

Somebody came up with the idea to make the poster in the shape of the state of Indiana, with the catchphrase of "Making Our STATEment" with the emphasis on "STATE"...but like so many other failed campaigns and marketing efforts, this one does not add up or make any sense either.

Cool picture...but make the poster shape and associated slogan/catchphrase something Purdue-related, or the shape of a basketball for that matter.

What would happen if the powers that be decided to use the outline of the State of Indiana as the background for the mid-court logo with the Purdue logo overlaid?

As an aside, what percentage of people outside of the State (and not generally affiliated with Purdue or the conference) do you think know that Purdue is located in Indiana? Just curious, heck, some members of my family probably forgot that fact.......

They did somehow piss off a bunch of iu, Butler, nd fans on the twitters.
So I guess that part of the marketing worked

DG10 is fuming over these.
Hardly...not fuming at all...I simply said that it was another lame and misguided marketing effort, but in that there have been so many, it is only the last and most recent example is all.

Cool posters with respect to the action shots of the guys involved...at least they were smart enough to print them in black and gold opposed to cream and crimson.

IU puts out a schedule with cartoon like heads of all the players on it every year. Everyone in the state gobbles them up. I appreciate that Purdue marketing is trying to provide the same type of thing to our fan base.
