Relevance?Like the poster, but Vincent Edwards is from Ohio.
Doesn't the fact that the message is not clear pretty well sum up the ineffectiveness of the campaign, whatever it may be?I actually think the posters are great, but what's the message? We're trying to win Indiana?
DG: Is there anything you like about Purdue Men's Basketball? I get it you don't like CMP and you are frustrated with recruiting, but do you have to be negative about everything? It's a poster with the schedule on it, what do you want?Doesn't the fact that the message is not clear pretty well sum up the ineffectiveness of the campaign, whatever it may be?
He does have a point. What is the message they're trying to convey? That Purdue is working to be the best in the state? That Purdue gets (or wants) the best players in the state? Is this akin to the "State of Purdue" that came about on the football side a couple years ago? Is it representative of the pride of playing for this state? Or is it overly simplistic and tying back merely to the shape of the poster? And truthfully, it really doesn't matter what the message is... as you said, it's just a schedule, so the lack of clarity is of little consequence. But I think his point remains - negative or not - the "statement" at the top has a bit of oddness to it. However, the graphics are cool and would make for a good magnet design.DG: Is there anything you like about Purdue Men's Basketball? I guess I'm just worn out with all the negative recruiting dialogue and the CMP negative comments. I respect peoples' right to not like CMP or to be frustrated with how recruiting has gone so far this year. I have even agreed that I'm getting worried about 2017 class, but man, could we just let the poster be what it is? It's a way to get fans excited about the coming season with a schedule on it.
I'm done now.
I don't disagree with your larger point. The negativity vortex can get to a person if you let it. I'm not defending the negativity, but in fairness to DG, there was no mention of Painter in his response. I don't think it's a surprise to anyone that for years the athletic department has had a mild case of identify crisis going on with poor marketing campaigns (Makers All, is that even still around any more?), poor ability to connect with fans, give them the gameday experiences the want, etc. Maybe it's hard to separate the sweeping discontent into the components to which it truly relates anymore, but I took his comment to be more a shot at the misguided marketing arm of the athletic office. Just my 2 cents to clarify my earlier comment. But again, your broader point is not lost on me.You just reinforced my point...It's a friggin poster with the schedule on it.

In fairness I shouldn't have quoted DG and called just him out on it. I just thought that at least one thread could be positive about the school/program. You're right, I'm caught in the negativity vortex and I want out.I don't disagree with your larger point. The negativity vortex can get to a person if you let it. Statey alluded to it/covered it, but obviously there is some sort of message behind it...a marketing campaign of some sort (or attempted one at least), and, my point was that it missed (again) in that it not only was not clear, but it was not even discernible.DG: Is there anything you like about Purdue Men's Basketball? Sure it is a cool picture of the player included...but why even have the message, especially if it is one that does not make much (any?) sense, and why have it in the shape of the state (as that as well makes no sense...to be brutally honest, is it not part of the actual logo of the alleged arch rival program for that matter?)?
Somebody came up with the idea to make the poster in the shape of the state of Indiana, with the catchphrase of "Making Our STATEment" with the emphasis on "STATE"...but like so many other failed campaigns and marketing efforts, this one does not add up or make any sense either.
Cool picture...but make the poster shape and associated slogan/catchphrase something Purdue-related, or the shape of a basketball for that matter.

They're all great and in my opinion...spot on. It's about time Purdue gets associated with the state they're in. I hope they print a lot of all of them.
Hardly...not fuming at all...I simply said that it was another lame and misguided marketing effort, but in that there have been so many, it is only the last and most recent example is all.DG10 is fuming over these.
Good luck. I called them last year about the posters and got nothing.
