Katie Gearlds, utilizing her "wealth of contacts in D1 basketball" as some here profess her to have, hired Anastacia Kirby from "surprise" NAIA Marian to be the new DBO. That is three new hires since she came on board, one promotion from within at Purdue and two from Marian.......

Many coaches bring their previous assistants with them…so??? Is there a particular reason we are trying to stir the pot on CKG?

When you are bringing people up from NAIA to fill Power5 positions, its rather telling that you have no connections to people that won't have to learn on the job and can help right away. NAIA is somewhere between D3 and High school ball, and nearly half our staff now only has NAIA experience save for last year.

What do you think a director of operations does? From my understanding it's a person who makes the travel and food arrangements and doesn't do anything with basketball. So does it really matter what level they come from?

The DBO is frequently at practice as an extra set of eyes to give their input; its not just someone who sits in a little office making travel plans for all the game trips, recruiting trips, visits, and coordinating with visiting teams for their plans. Virtually nothing about working at Marian would prepare her for this job, and that's a problem when three members of your coach new to D1 has 3 members of their staff with no meaningful experience in their position outside of Guyton's time as Video coordinator. Now if the VC prepared Guyton to be an assistant, its a problem that we have someone with no D1 experience in it. If it didn't then Guyton is having to learn everything OJT from a head coach with no D1 experience more than she has.

Basketball coaching is not the esoteric science you seem to think it is.

Are you just looking for something to harp about before the first game?

In the era of portals and NIL I would expect the job to be much more important
