Between Christmas and New Year has come and gone. Does anybody have any new news to share on who our new coaches are going to be? Or info on when any announcements are to be expected?

The inclusion of Poindexter and Shephard and Lovett's names in this announcement and the omission of Parker's name, leads me to the conclusion Parker was not retained in any capacity.

I was hoping for a bigger name at DC
Most of us expected Brohm to bring the majority of his staff with him.

Holt is actually a big name if you look at his experience prior to coming to WKU. Shephard, Poindexter and Levine are also big name coaches.

As for coaches with big name resumes, Hazell's staff included a few coaches with big name college experience that were not very effective in implementing their schemes or developing our players.

I like Holt at DC. I think it's a great pickup. He was the DC at Washington and Southern Cal and has been a head coach. Not sure what else you can ask for. It will be tough this year simply because of talent and bodies, but it will improve.

No real surprise on the rest of the staff, but that is okay because he is surrounding himself with guys he works well with and has produced results with.

I'd still like to see Chris Barclay from WKU be the RB coach as well as Bryan Ellis, who was the pass game coordinator and WR coach. He was the guy calling the plays in the bowl game that they lit up the scoreboard in. It is also possible we add another DL and DB coach, as he had a DT and a Safety coach at WKU. If we add Ellis, it is likely that Parker is out. If not, we may still see Parker back.

It makes sense. Tiller brought almost his entire staff from Wyoming. It means the coaches don't have to spend as much time trying to get on the same page, and know exactly what is expected of them. I'm interested to see what Brian Brohm can do with Blough and Sindelar since he actually has the playing experience.

From the recent de-commits that reportedly were recruited by him apparently he may have known and communicated such but that is just a guess!

Parker made a telling comment at the annual banquet when he commented, what are they going to do to me? Fire me? That led me to believe he knew he wasn't coming back. I also have to believe Brohm communicated this to his new recruits.

Why did he end up as DC at WKU then if he is so good?

That's a really good question. His resume does seem overqualified to be a WKU defensive coordinator. Leaving USC for Alabama seems logical. Leaving USC for WKU does Seem odd.

Then again, any coach accepting a position at Purdue is also odd.

He took a HC gig at Idaho after Washington. Got fired with a losing record. I'm hoping he is a much better DC than HC.

He was also fired at Washington as the DC. His performance is debatable there, but Sarkisian fired him after bringing him along with him and paying him a lot of money to get him away from USC. If you research it, and stay away from the Washington fan base, and read unbiased reports his defenses were not as bad as you would have thought.
He improved WK defense every year as they were really good this year. Outstanding actually if you could take out the two LaTech games. I think he is a great hire, but it might take 2-3 years to show it since we do not have the bodies right now. If we get Mykelti Williams and a couple good good DT's it might actually be respectable.

I have confidence in Holt for two reasons. he knows what it takes to build a power 5 defense and game schemes to run. and by being the DC at USC and Wash, he knows the type of players needed to compete at that level.

on a related note, being the DC at a lesser school like WKU, he also knows how to coach mediocre talent and be successful.

I believe part of Hazell's problem was his coordinators were used to working with 4/5 star talent, and their schemes were just too hard/demanding for our lesser talent to grasp and accomplish. What worked at Michigan and Florida St didn't work at Purdue. I heard numerous times our players saying they were still learning the new defense installed.. and on many occasions, I saw our linebackers totally out of position to be able to make the play. To me, that's the fault of coaching.

Sometimes with young coach like brohm, you need an old guy who's been fired a few times.
