Saw on ESPN where New Mexico's Cullen Neal is transferring. He has 2 years left.

I remember after we played them, someone brought up how he'd be a good fit, and everybody promptly jumped on the poster, saying "He's the coaches son - he's not going anywhere".

So, is this worth pursuing for Painter? Seems like he's exactly what we need.

He just played his 3rd year with his 2nd excused as a medical redshirt. I assume he would have to sit a year, so by the time he get's here, we would have a senior Mathias and junior Cline ahead of him, plus hopefully another 2 guys that play that 2 or 3. In his 2nd full (3rd overall) year, he is averaging 30 minutes per game while shooting 35% from the field and 32.7% from 3. 3.7 assists but 3.3 TO's. I sure hope CMP can bring in some more talented players than Neal, no offense to the young man.

Side note, seems he has received threats, even death threats, I guess for being the coaches son and not being that good and getting a ton of minutes over more deserving players. That's insane, and I hope he ends up somewhere that he can just be a student athlete who is pursuing a degree while playing ball. I hope whoever would make a death threat over a game ends up arrested.

he is graduating early (in 3 years) and is eligible to play immediately next year.

He seems like a pretty talented kid, but shoots a lot, and doesn't shoot the ball efficiently at all (kind of like Alford's son at UCLA). I'll pass.

He is eligible immediately and has 2 years of eligibility. Only shot 35% from the field this year and had more turnovers than assists. I really liked his game against us but it doesn't sound like he had a great year overall.

If he had just 1 year left, I would take him, but he's not good enough to take a spot from the 2017 class.

^^^^^what they said^^^^^
He had more shot attempts than AJ and fewer makes than Vince

I was wrong earlier. He actually has more assists than turnovers (114 to 101).

I made that post about him right after the game. I hope he jumps on board. Whatever gives us the absolute best chance at winning.

He averaged 17 as a freshman and shot 50% from 3. Didn't play was well this season but I'm sure that's tough when you deal with the off the court stuff he did. That and his team wasn't all that great so it makes sense that he had the ball a lot and shot a lot.

I think he is better positioned as a 2 but was forced to play the 1. Put him on a much better team and I think he'd fit great. Best of all, the kid can create his own shot. He torched us quite a few times for layups in our matchup. Purdue doesn't have much of that.

Coach Painter and his dad and their coach are also friends, thus the connection. I think his dad would love for him to play for someone he trusts if he can't coach him himself.

The plot thickens ... and yes, Dad's are like that.

OK - I changed my mind on this kid. Get him. We need SOMEONE who can create a shot off the dribble, and he can do it. i don't care how many guards we will have on scholarship - we obviously don't have enough.
