Saw this yesterday. Purdue projected as a 7-seed, having to travel to Pittsburgh. I think Pitt took us out last year in the E-8?

Lost 6 of 7 starters from last year, season is going pretty much how the experts expected it to go. Couple of disappointing loses will cost them a top 16 seed. Hoping Schemerhorn uses her Covid year, if she does Purdue will return 4-5 starters along with the great recruiting class and redshirts.
With nothing to back it up, I bet Schermerhorn does not come back. She has gotten quite a bit of PT all 4 years. Would not hurt my feelings one bit if she stays.
Hoping the incoming freshman setter next year lights it up.

This projection could be very wrong if Purdue beats Michigan tonight along with Maryland next week and upsets Nebraska or Penn State. That could definitely happen. I still hold out hope that one or all of the above happens. (Or we could lose all four!)
As Dave says, in the B1G any team on a given night can beat any other team.

I can see a Penn State upset, at Nebraska is something I don’t think happens.
My thought about Maddie returning was because she sort of lost a year of starting when Otec returned, maybe she wants that second year, plus she’s had injury problems this year, maybe she comes back one more time. Coach in his podcast unlike last year didn’t rule out players returning, obviously it won’t be many with a big class coming in.
I don’t doubt it at all. My thought was that last year was kind of a special case with all those all-Americans. It could have been our year (we did beat wiscy 2x). I really hate the 4 round hosting advantage for the top 4 seed’s mainly because we are not likely to get one of them. I don’t think Pitt would have beaten us on a neutral court, that place was rocking. If MS comes back she will undoubtedly be our best defender. The fact that she can overhand set and backset is a huge advantage for out of system balls, wish she could disguise it a bit better.
I feel for the three outsides who have each shown flashes of brilliance but have never been heavily relied upon and saw just a fraction of the playing time they expected…they were never better than Newton or Cleveland but if they had seen those types of opportunities, who knows What they might have become.
if everyone leaves we may have a bit of a down year but we are just opening up huge opportunities for a very promising young lineup. In warmups at MSU and UM I saw Warren smack the crap out of the ball, I hope she gets some opportunity next year along with the sensational freshman.

if not, I hope that PU/Renner gets a better connection with her middles, develops a quick game, develops a more reliable jump set which is by it nature more deceptive and has a more creative, less predictable offense. Of course this is not all on the setter, better passing and hitter limitations are also inputs. I believe this team would have been markedly better with Bush at the helm this year…big surprise.
I agree with all the reasons/excuses of why we aren't as good as last year, but they could be if they were connecting on all cylinders. There is something missing in the combinations or chemistry that isn't allowing it to happen with this group as a total.
By the way, this is not meant to paint a bad picture of anyone player. They are all greaat ladies and excellent representatives of the University and I am glad they are all BOilermakers. HOpefully they will continue to play hard this year and that things will mess beautifully next season

And to prove Dave’s point, Maryland (who had lost 6 straight sets) tonight beat Ohio State (who beat Nebraska last week) 3-1 and the 3 sets they won were not even close.
