It will likely be the Sunday after the IU game. DH2 and the entire coaching staff will be fired. (EDIT: I think it that DH2 will be fired late in the season like early November. See posts below)

If DH2 is fired during the season, one of the coordinators will likely step up and take over until seasons end.

As some of you wanting to hire a new coach now, that would not be wise. Who is available? The pickings are few right now. Towards the end of the season, the latter third, it will become clear on which coaches and coaching staffs will be in jeopardy. There will be more candidates available then than now. Some of the candidates are current HC's, some are coordinators that will be looking for work when their boss gets axed.

There will also be currently HC and Coordinators that are in safe programs but want to move up. These potential hires are not thinking of jumping now (the season just started and they concentrating on that). Towards the end of the season, these potential candidates will be looking and wanting to talk.

You see, if MB2 hires someone now, he loses out on the large pool of candidates that will become available at seasons end. Coletto was fired mid-season and a coordinator took over. Joe Tiller was named the week after the season ended. (Tiller was not hired mid-season)

For those of you fearing how this will effect recruits. Look at who DH2 is recuiting. Are they B1G material? Given the talent and depth of the Purdue team, we are at rock bottom. We won't miss them if they leave. Besides the new coach and his staff will bring in a number of players they were recruiting at their previous jobs.

Lastly, we need to hire a veteran coach who has creds and experience at the same level as the B1G. Someone with a record of success. Purdue can no long gamble on these young upstart coaches that had 1 great year at South Succotash State. Nine times out of ten, these hires never pan out. DH1 and DH2 are testimony to that.

I would add that if the new coach has his team in a bowl game he be required to forego coaching in the bowl game and become our leader immediately.

Let coach go by early November so that Purdue can begin the National search and request contacts with coaches that are already under contract. Spack and Sumlin come to mind. Some are clamoring on PJ Fleck and others say he is gimmicky. Personally, I'd love a coach who has passion and is energetic. I'm hoping whoever the hire is has enough energy to elevate the team quickly similar to what Tiller did. Having winning seasons right out of the gate, might be unrealistic. Getting the team going in the right direction and closing the gap to .500 winning percentage should be the expectation in year 1.

Pull the trigger now, show that leadership cares. You don't want Hazell to become an even greater pariah.

I like your timing. By creating a vacancy towards the end of the regular season, it puts Purdue on the map early that they are looking for a new coach. This has precedent at Purdue.

Jim Coletto resigned as HC on November 5, 1996, 2-1/2 weeks before the end of the season. On November 22, Joe Tiller is named as HC. (He would coach Wyoming in its bowl game in December). If Coletto did not resign but was fired on November 22, would Tiller still be still available for the job?

I think firing HB2 in early November is the best timing. It places everyone on notice that the Purdue position is open and available and gets a jump on other programs that are firing coaches in late November/early December. More coaches, especially those that are in 'safe' programs would be able to look at the opportunities at Purdue.

It won't happen, but MB should can his ass during the season.

Like others have said, get it the hell over with and let the coaching community know that the spot is wide f-ing open.

and let recruits know it is not going to be more of the same old s**t. Coordinators can play it out.
