My thoughts on Swanigan

So I have been trying to figure who to compare Swanigan too in the NBA, or who he should maybe model his game after or sell himself as... And I think I found one. Not that he is anywhere close to this guy yet, but his measurables as far as height, weight, and especially wing span are very very similar.

The player is Elton Brand. Both were 6'8 to 6'9 with 7'3 to 7'4 wing spans... Neither were elite athletes, though Elton was a bit more athletic. The thing that Swanigan needs to work on IMO to sell himself on being like him is the midrange jumper. If he can get that little 10 to 15 footer like Elton had, as well as his back to the basket game, then I think he could sneak into the later lottery.

He does not have this yet, and maybe another year in college showing off this new ability would bode well for him. Now I know it's 95% chance that he's gone, but this is the 1 thing that I could come up with that could make him raise his stock.

I watch little to no NBA unless Pacers are in playoffs. So I just wish him (& his family indirectly) the best of luck.

Saw one draft site say their pie in the sky comparison was Kevin Love and I can kind of see it. Love is a little bit taller but was a great rebounder in Minnesota and can knock down the 3. He's somewhat limited athletically and defensively. I must not have paid much attention to Love in college but I never expected him to expand his range like he has in the NBA. Were Biggie to develop into a poor mans Love I wouldn't be disappointed.

Edit: looked up combine measurements and they are just about the same height and similar weight. Biggie has a bigger wingspan but their standing verticals are similar going off Biggie's numbers from last year which I would expect him to slightly improve upon for this years combine. Reading a description of Love's breakdown sounds almost exactly like Biggie's would. I like the comparison even more after reading what was said about Love coming out of UCLA.

I would day he is similar to Draymond Green or Zach Randolph.

Without a doubt, Zach Randolph. Both can't jump, both rebound bigtime, both can score easily. Also both are from Indiana and both signed to play at MSU. Biggie was smart enough to change his mind and become a Boiler. I remember being devastated when Zach went to MSU. I really thought he'd go to Purdue. After he was 1 and Done, I wasn't so upset... :)

Draymond green is a horribke comparison idk why people keep making it.

Love lost a lot of weight since college and is a much better ball handler and natural shooter than biggie. Zach randolph is a solid comparison, however he I think was even better at scoring in the post, seems to get his shot off even vs longer athleic guys

Draymond Green in college and Draymond Green now are completely different players. The only thing those two players have in common is name and hustle.

Love's shooting percentages early in his career do not suggest that he was a better shooter than Biggie coming out of college and his first few years in the league he shot poorly from 3. Love is listed at 251lbs now. Just about the same weight he was coming out of college also. He's also baby fat where Biggie is muscle. I still stand by the Love comparison for where both players were entering the draft.

Love's vertical at the 2008 combine was 29.5" (no step) and 35" max. Last year, Biggie was at 26" and 29", respectively. Quite a difference, and I wouldn't have guessed Love could get up like that, especially given how doughy he was. Will be interesting to see Biggie's improvement this year. I'll guess he's up to 28" and 32".

Yes there was a large difference between their overall max vertical but the 3 inches on the 1 step wasn't as great. Biggie has also trimmed down compared to last season and had a little bit more spring to his game. I could see Biggie getting his 1 step up near 30 and max around where you said if he is working really hard right now leading up to it. Verticals are kind of like 40's. If you can't play at your 40 speed and can't jump in game to what your vertical suggests you can then they aren't as important.

Not crazy about the Okafor comparison mostly due to each players mindset. Biggie has shown he is willing to work hard and battle through adversity. He gives nearly a full effort in every game. Okafor in the NBA is the exact opposite of this. There was a hilarious clip of him on defense this season playing downright terrible with zero effort.
