If you plan on reading this and you think it's too negative - stop reading! If you plan on reading this and it points out to many positives - then stop reading! This is not a state of the union - it IS my take and emotions based on today and our recent past.

1). No secret the first INT hurt - BUT I predicted Appleby and Purdue would bounce back- they did and that is a GOOD sign. I agree with coach - they fought hard!

2). Out Offensive line and RB's (Knox & Jones) looked really good - 5.2 yds a carry! Only one INT was due to pressure - the offensive line (& RB's) played well enough to win. Another GOOD sign,

3). Kicking was BAD - I counted on Meadows to boot the ball - and win he field position battle - the punts I saw were short and bad - one 50 yarder and and a bunch of 35 yards punts. Griggs missed FG reminded me of Dorsch from the old Boilers. "I can make it from 54 - but I can't make it from 40 when it really counts" - plus his kickoffs were crappy too - BAD kicking today!

4). I swear the box score has to be wrong. It seemed like the 1st 6 penalties were on Purdue (Bentley's roughing the passer and Griggs kick OB stand out). I was shocked to see we only had 4 penalties? I felt like the 1st half - we shot ourselves in the foot with too many mistakes. In the 2nd half we didn't get flagged much - improvement!!

5). WR's are a huge question mark! Anthrop is not 100%, Yancey looked much better and Mahoungou is a nice add. But minus the 1 pass downfield - we did not stretch the field much. I worry about our speed on the outside - and it looks like we don't have a TE that we can throw to! Quick passes or bust! That is not good.

5). Appleby's 4 picks are just unacceptable!! You cannot have a team play that well - and leave with a 10 point loss. I am sure people will point out the other good plays (and i agree he played Ok) - but 4 picks?? You cannot win in D1 football with that many turnovers (in my opinion - all were on him too - no tips or bad routes - just bad passes). Leadership skills and toughness look good - but damn this loss is on him.

6). I am trying like hell to give Hazell a chance - and this loss does not move me to the fire the coach camp. But the rhetoric is getting stale - That post game presser is a broken record - I can play it from 4 games last year and just push play today - same shit!

This team looked much better today - minus QB and kicking - the rest of the team played pretty well. But last time I checked - those are 2 pretty important positions that let us down today.

It's early - I am seeing light for the first time in awhile - but we need to finish!!! In some ways - it's the same old story.
