This is a big class for coach Painter, so I thought I would offer some very limited thoughts on what I have observed from the ones i have seen in person. I don't feel qualified to comment at all on Cox, Jacobsen, and Burgess because I have not seen them play, but i have seen Benter and Catchings a couple of times.
Benter - He really feels like he can be a shooter in the mold of Ryan Cline. I saw both of his semi-stte games last year, the second one with Casey. Against Scecina in the morning game he had 18 points and played well. He only had three points in the first three quarters as he got his teammates involved, then he dropped 15 in the final quarter to put them away 56-42. In the night game I felt he forced things a bit. he finished the eight-point loss to Linton-Stockton with 29 points, but it came on 29 shots as he was volume chucking for a large portion of the game with his team behind. That included going 7 of 20 from three. I think he can be a Cline/Mathias/Stefanovic/Ryne Smith type of guard.
Catchings - I saw him twice last season, once against Zionsville and I watched his entire game against Kokomo in their holiday classic battle. Catchings had 16 against Zionsville, but it came on 15 shots as they had the defense that harrassed him all night. His three-point shot looked very smooth though. The more impressive game was against Kokomo. Against Flory Bidunga he put on an absolute show that some called the greatest visiting performance by an opposing player in the storied history of Memorial Gym. He dropped 39 on Kokomo in a 73-51 win. He was absolteuly dominant on both ends of the floor against a good Kokomo team that would win 17 in a row after that loss before losing to Ben Davis in the State title game. He was 14 of 21 in that game and dynamic on both ends of the floor with his athleticism. That game left quite an impression on me, and I think he has a Jaden Ivey-esque ceiling.
