That Brohm poaches Mark Hagen from IU to return to Purdue. Offer him $400k and give him a co-coordinator tile under Holt.

He's a great recruiter in the state and a very good DL/LB coach. He coached cliff avril, I think. I'm sure he would think hard about an offer like that. We could afford it and Holt won't command more than $500k.

Too expensive? Not worth it? Won't leave IU? What say you?

He's an IU alum.

I don't want to be Putting too much weight in Indiana recruits.

OSU, UM and ND will still get the top guys here. I'd rather have a coach that can recruit the south better

I don't think so ! There was a time when we got more than our share of the top guys in Indiana that the big boys also wanted. Start winning, with exciting football and we will have a chance with everyone of them.

.

We still should, here's why:

1) How many Indiana Mr. Football position award winners are going to Indiana? 4. That's 4 players who should be making Purdue better, not IU.

2). The more Indiana HS FB stars (even 3 stars) the more fans we may have come to home games in the Fall. WL is an easy drive for most of the state.

3). The more Indiana coaches respect Purdue, the better chances we get with the best in state players.

It's all about building a recruiting base. If we can fill up the 2 deeps with solid IN players, we can go all out for those game changer recruits down south.

When he coached LBs for Purdue, they were bad. Bad tackling, bad recognition, etc. He was fine on DL, but Melvin was/is the best we have had there.
Yeah, LBs were forgettable under him, but I think he was better than "fine" on DL. Melvin is definitely the best, but Hagen was definitely a good coach and a much better recruiter than an aging Melvin. Id rather have the recruiter, especially during Brohms honeymoon period.

If you win, they will come, unless you are the Cubs then it doesn't matter if you win or not.
So why settle for a mediocre "Indiana" coach? I say get the best one you can. Fans will come if you start winning.

Its easier to win if you recruit better players.

Leave him at IU. he shouldn't have left in the first place, if he didn't want to be here stay there, Quick name me one LB he coached at iu…times up no one who's playing on the next level. Traitor and believe me AVRIL did not need his help… he is a beast. For $400k we could get a lot better alternative them him. Coach Brohm will find the right guys who love Purdue and don't leave us to go south.

No reason to cut a potential DC short on money simply because you can...that's the dumb rationale that got the program in the situation it is in currently.

Let Brohm pick his DC and let that DC negotiate his contract. If it's Holt and it's 500k, then great. But the fact is the program needs a good DC and seeing Brohm's moves and comments already, I trust he will select a man who can provide a solid direction for the defense.

He's an IU grad. Don't think you'll see him leave Bloomington.

His strongest asset was ability to recruit in IN and he also got guys from Chicago area suburbs here and was well regarded by HS coaches... but.....he's not worth $ 400k
