MSU just took a hit with Schilling needing surgery on his knee.

With Ben Carter also out from a knee injury a few weeks ago, that means that freshman Nick Ward (6'-8") is the only active player on roster over 6'-7".

So we should be able to at least win the opening tip-off. :)

Kenny Goins (6'-6") who suffered a knee injury last year is also still not practicing yet.

Will be interesting to see how well Izzo does with the stud freshmen because they are now going to be thrown into the fire a bit more early than probably planned.

How many scholarships are they in line to have open for next year? If both Carter and Schilling take medical redshirts how many openings will they have? Assuming they don't have any freshmen declare early.

Regardless of the recent animosity among posters with Michigan State, hate to see anyone go down to injury or otherwise. These knee injuries seem to increase year after year. Hope he can recover and resume his playing career.

Definitely presents some depth/experience challenges for Izzo.

I think they have 4 scholarship seniors. So, they had 4 definite openings, 5 if Bridges goes pro. 2 slots are already filled by Tillman and Jackson.

EDIT: might have 5 scholarship seniors. Matt Van Dyk was a walk-on in the beginning but he might have a scholarship now. Not sure.

That really hurts them, but small ball can be tough to contend with. I am reminded of when Painter played Robbie Hummel at the 5 against Kansas.

On D, I would guess that Izzo will play a UVa like pack line to neutralize the post, especially when Ward is out of the game.
