MSU Basketball Alumni - Not a Good Week

WOW, I listen to him often on Sirius XM College Sports. hmmm ... may want to listen-in tomorrow. You can get the boy out of Flint, but you can't get Flint out of the boy.

Flint is a cesspool. If that makes me a classist fine. Not sure how race comes into it as Flnt is an equal opportunity cesspool.

Yeah...as a Michigander I take offense. Not all of Izzo's thugs come from Flint. Keith Appling is from Detroit and Adreian Payne came all the way from Ohio to learn how to assault women. And Dawson was from Indiana, so the common denominator isn't Flint.

Right on. The lowest common denominator is a white boy from Iron Mountain. The fish rots from the head...

Hey folks, the thing is that, regardless of how much you do not like Izzo and the MSU players, for right or wrong, it is stereotypical to imply that the city of Flint has anything to do with the alleged perpetrator and the alleged crime. There are great people in Flint, Detroit, Ohio, Indiana and Iron Mountain, as there are also people in those places who are not so good. Just like in any other city, state or country. If you think that it is Izzo's tutelage or lack of leadership, then that is a point of view that come across at least as more credible, based on whatever evidence and rationales you choose to believe in. But stereotyping is prejudicial and directly connected with, I think in this case, racism and classism - knowing the common stereotypes about Flint and Detroit, where large populations of people of color under very stressful economic conditions work and live. Please note that I am only making a comment on the comments and not on the posters.

Well, I could discuss the Tabula Rosa theory of experiences defining the person you become .... or I could discuss the logic behind comparing the fact that all Angus cows are black, but not all black cows are Angus - and NO, that has no racist connotation, it is simply a logic example. But I choose to simply let this thread die a natural death.

I wasn't really commenting on the people. Flint sucks. Thanks GM for your wonderful corporate citizenship.

Racism is like beauty: it's in the eye of the beholder.

Racism is real.

I do agree that the race card is over played sometimes, but I agree with Olivo's basic point that there is no reason to be making general derogatory comments about the people of Flint on this board or elsewhere. I won't go so far as to call it racist, but it certainly is disrespectful of the people of that city.
