Monitoring the Free Board

What is the deal when there is a completely dumb troll post that has no basis for fact and is just plain stupid? Does this get monitored and is anyone deleting these? I get it when there are individual replies - it might be unrealistic to monitor all those, but when the discussion of a thread is just a completely inaccurate and baseless statement from the get-go, I think they should be deleted and the OP possibly even banned.

There is some monitoring of the free boards. And some posts have been deleted in the past. I believe the posts that were deleted were posts that were offensive rather than ones that were inaccurate or baseless. Not every post made is always on topic.

There was a recent thread about the assist to turnover stat, which grew into a discussion between Wabash and myself and Wabash claimed several of his posts as part of that discussion were deleted. So it does happen.

Boiled steel posted he was going to place two posters on ignore. That post wasn't really sports related. But it wasn't offensive either.

If you believe a post should be deleted or a poster to be banned, you can contact the site owner.

When you come on here you get what you pay for. It's the Free Board and I wouldn't expect much effort to be made to police it. While some posters are obviously trolls the ignore feature takes care of most of those. Some topics appear to be way OT but you can choose to ignore those on your own.

I'm curious as to what post Purdue0034 was referring to. I've narrowed it down to 45,963. I also believe his desire to have a poster banned for posting inaccuracies is a little harsh.

Hey Wolegib - You are probably right; a full ban is probably a bit harsh. I guess that would be pretty hard to enforce anyway. If the troll is just completely out of control however it gets pretty annoying. There was some dude on here about 2 or 3 months ago who was just out of control and every post was just insulting and stupid. Not that I read all of the stupid post, but it was just annoying. What prompted this thread was a recent completely baseless post about one of our new guys and how he would be a 4 year guy, etc.; when actually he is going to be awesome.

I agree there are some posts that get under my skin by trolling banjos and even our fans. That said, I try to resist giving them satisfaction with a missile launch back their way. That's what their sick minds want. 6-7 years ago this site was so bad with IU, MSU and Purdue fan wars that it was out of control. Anytime you posted you got a childish, ass rude reply usually from an IU fan. The monitors did clean it up quite a bit. I would say it is mellow now compared to then. I still get pissed but I remember I make the choice to come here and I get what I pay for.

Spot on, this board used to be far FAR worse than it is now. But people just need to learn to not take it so seriously and realize just like you said, you get what you pay for.

Back when this forum first started I was a pretty frequent troller (shocker I know), but realized that taking the internet that seriously was just one large waste of time. People need to understand that everyone has their right to their opinion and more times than not it isn't going to match how you think about things. If we all thought the same way, what fun would that be anyway?

with the absence of peegs (many of them anyway) , more boiler fans have kind of turned on their own to argue with. that's good and bad I suppose.
nothing was more annoying than the random Tennessee fan infiltration though(!)

I guess I shouldn't take things so seriously - a really bad post does give us a chance to share recipes and great places to eat, etc! I was in Lafayette, West Lafayette recently and got my Dog-n-Suds, Frozen Custard fix! Both good as ever!
