Disclaimer - Im no pro and dont know how to determine who is good on the O Line and D Line - Ill leave that to Tom at GBI
Its difficult to gain a real good vantage point from where the sidelines are roped off and the End Zones + the split field forces you to exit one fence and walk around to the other end of the fence
Not Complaining at all - its great to have the chance to watch the team practice
I wasnt able to see a lot of the WRs or QB drills or RBs except for the Redzone and some 11 on 11
Hazy Overcast AM - 81% humidity and 80 degrees w a 9mph wind (Thank God or there would have been some ppl dropping)
Sun broke through 1 hour into practice and it was sweltering ...the fake field seems to absorb and give back some heat
Stretching and Warmups - Cool up tempo music for first 30 mins and nice Vibe
Watched KR first part of practice and Charlie Jones just looks the part and moves like he knows whats going on all the time out there
Very Fluid and Quick
Sheffield, Kolby Lewis, Burks, Reece all looked good catching the ball on KR
Sheffield looks like he's added 5-10# of muscle - thick and defined
Saw M Rice jogging between stations and later running routes so he looks good and healthy
DBs
Yobouty coaches w an edge but always coaching and instructing w technique
Listened to really well by the DBs
Trice, Taylor, J Brown all look good by the eyeball and moving good
Trice obviously in the brace and was looking good in drills run at 70% speed
Technique was following the receiver route man to man, using the sideline and looking back when the receiver does but putting the shoulder pad into the chest as leverage - nudge
Punt Return - all looked good tracking and catching the ball, none hit the ground, coach would throw a towel in the line of vision as the ball was 10' from returner catching it
Taylor
C Jones
Sheffield
Sowinki
11 on 11
Jefferson had a nice pick stepping in front of a receiver - no idea who the QB was
Downing had a couple of nice runs he broke one to the outside L and another to the outside R that went the distance
Piferi from Allen as mentioned above
Charlie Jones, nice 40 yard grab where ball was in the air a while and he had 1 step on Cb and S but both were all over him as he laid out to catch the ball just out of reach of them and all 3 going to ground
Beauty of a pass and catch from Burton (surprised me it was on the money from Burton)
Redzone
Charlie Jones had another stellar catch behind 2 defenders in rt corner of EndZone and Allen threw a Dart to him
Fantastic pass and Catch and it was Good Defense too
Canion had a nice catch on the Left side the next play from Allen where he ran a straight 20 yard go route and Allen threaded one to him as he was manhandled out of bounds by the DB trying to play the ball
Was a big time catch and kept feet in bounds
Big Time Throw by Allen too
Allen looks sharp at times but can see his inexperience going through progressions and hangs on to the ball to long
Can make all the throws but needs the time to compute and find a receiver like all young QBs
Alaimo had some nice RedZone passes as well
WRs - Jones - Canion - Rice - Tracy - Burks - Sullivan all caught passes well
ARY was held back but was chirping during RZ drills
Terrell i hope was just a stinger as mentioned above in RZ drill
Defense
English was ripping some A** in the 11/11 drills when it first started and RBs and Downing broke off some long ones
Was a couple of starters that were being questioned if they were truly starter material from Coach English
Hagen holds his players accountable and grabs their attention in Drills
He does not mess around and can see why his position is so productive
The players respond and respect him
DT DE drills were crisp and w energy or they repeated it and that didnt happen to often
Hagen is also a teacher, coach, instructor whatever you want to call it and shows the players how to do it the correct way
And demands it
Same as English, Youboty and Elson - they coach with an Edge and with Energy yet show the right way...if it isnt done correctly, they will do it correctly
Just good Demanding precision energy from the D side of the ball from the Coaches
Look for them to be stout and tough
Caraway is more Fluid and lean than what I thought he would be and def looks the part
Looked really good in drills
Again im a novice but hes BIG Ten Ready for the Field if he knows the plays
Mo Omonde is also BIG Ten ready....maybe the thickest legs or Trunk I have seen on a player - just looks like rooted power in them legs
Strickland looks good and was one of the 1st guys hustling to the DL Drills multiple times to get ready and is very coachable and looks pretty good technique wise ...looks like he may have added a few muscles and would suspect by next year he will be a physical freak after maturing, growing, nutrition and throwing some iron around
Hudgins also looked good and saw him and Strickland being the pair of hustlers of the group setting a tone
Jenkins looks good also - looks like a mini Bull
Used to think L Johnson was a pretty big guy
Brevard #91 makes him look small and reminds me of a Kwity Paye type body
Yanni with this group looks small but that's just within the position group
Can tell he has put on some weight - wasn't able to focus on him much
#46 Humpich looks like a Thick Legged Lb and was a little more thick and big than what i recall - did seem to be moving little slow from being dinged up a bit
Spoke w King Dorue for a few minutes - impressive and humble young man - very polite and was nice to meet him - hoping he has a great year
Talked with Clyde Washington's dad again, met him last year, he drove out from NJ just learning that the practices were open
Love to see parents support their kids
Asked him if Clyde was going to start...."That's up to him...he's got it all, he just has to do it" Clyde def looks like he put on some muscle and looks Big Ten LB ...believe his Dad played College ball back in NJ and still looked the part
Spoke to Mr Orlando Bruno for a few minutes
He was taking in practice in the heat and is a super nice guy
Pains him to read some of the comments ppl make about how he should run his business and ppl dont understand the Time, Family, Rising Cost of Food and especially Labor that it takes to run the place + Covid about wiped them out
just saying
About all i captured between couple of work calls and having to scoot back to home
