Mollie Tibbetts’ father

Mollie Tibbetts
Seth Rich

Some right wingers have no shame.
Sad to hear his daughter bought into the racist propaganda being disseminated throughout our universities and main stream news. Someone disagreeing with her opinion on border security does not equate racism. Especially considering that black people stand to benefit the most from stronger borders. In fact, African Americans favor reducing legal immigration more than any other demographic group: 85% want less than a million immigrants entering annually and 54% of AA's want less than 250,000 immigrants per year or none at all.

Sad to see someone, who should really know better, embrace racist views. Right wing propaganda has done a terrible thing to our country. You probably had hopes of being a decent person.

I provide facts and you call it propaganda? There are a few guys on here that I disagree with politically but I think we'd enjoy tossing back a few beers together. You......you are one I disagree with and have serious concerns about how you function in life. Something is definitely off kilter with you. Just curious - are you married? Kids?

Yes, I have a problem that people demonize others based off of the color of their skin or their sexual orientation. The Republican Party makes a living off of creating fear of the other for their largely elderly, white, male, Christian base. I say this as a white male Christian, the right in this country is abhorrent. The fact that you and so many others find no fault in their words and actions makes me call into question your moral character. You, SDboiler and others choose to be the way that you are.

You are the master of conflation and misinterpreting data. Sheesh.

I have no idea where you got those percentages (likely from some right wing misinformation rag)...but I'm highly confident they're spurious (if they're even real) and you're presenting them in a ridiculous fashion.

What about left wing socialists Indy? What about the liberal left who constantly want to divide? What about those who use shootings to promote their values?

Isn't it really about who's ox is being gored? Posts like this is why I can never take any of the left's viewpoints seriously because the left lies more than anyone else.

You are a deranged hater. We don’t go around calling people “deplorable”,”irredeemable”, racist, misogynist, homophobe, xenophobe....This is the domain of the left. Identity politics in extremis. You act like you’re morally superior, but you’re the least tolerant person on this board. A few of us just call you out for what you are.

Yup, conservatives never insult liberals.

It’s one thing to hurl insults, it’s entirely another to try to brand an entire demographic as being reprehensible and worthy of scorn because they dare to disagree with your political beliefs. The left just seems to want to shut down discussion when in the past they were the supposed party of free expression and speech.

Conservatives are a demographic?

C'mon man, you know this goes both ways.

Surely you see the disgusting stuff right wing trolls say on comment threads?

No, not conservatives. Indy35 said “largely elderly, white, male, Christians” were despicable and reprehensible. Talk about broad brush stereotypes.

He never connected those two thoughts together.

Anyway, this thread has gone off the rails. I really hope conservatives respect Mollie's family's wishes unlike the way they acted with the Rich's.

Exploiting a family's grief to make a bad argument is deplorable.

It seems to me that the media is exploiting Mollie's death as much as anyone else. Her death is no doubt a tragedy. It's tragic that an illegal killed her for apparently no good reason beside Mollie rebuffing his advances. It's tragic that this guy was even in the country to begin with.

Comparing this to Seth Rich is a bit of a stretch. Seth Rich was part of a political machine, and was mysteriously shot in the back while walking home from a bar after 3 AM. Mollie Tibbets was a college student at Iowa, dogsitting for her boyfriend and was abducted, sexually abused, and killed while running on a rural road.

There, I fixed it for you since you did exactly what her father asked you not to do but you just couldn’t help yourself.

Facts and details don’t matter in this case?

You’re the one telling a father how to grieve his daughter even after he point blank said the opposite. So maybe try a different narrative.

I didn’t tell her father anything. I feel for him that his daughter died for no apparently good reason at the hands of an illegal alien.

I said that those people largely make up the right base, not that they were despicable and reprehensible because of that. Right wing media plays identity politics by attacking anyone that isn't a white male Christian.
All the racism, fear mongering, scapegoating, the refutation of reality, the anti-intellectualism, anti-science, the misogyny, pro fascist anti-democratic appeals to the worst sentiments, that is what I find despicable and reprehensible.

Some of you young bucks need to learn the difference between providing a counter-example as a response and whataboutism. Shining a light on a hypocritical position does not equal whataboutism.

Now go get buckets.

According to Merriam-Webster
The tactic behind whataboutism has been around for a long time. Rhetoricians generally consider it to be a form of tu quoque, which means "you too" in Latin and involves charging your accuser with whatever it is you've just been accused of rather than refuting the truth of the accusation made against you. Tu quoque is considered to be a logical fallacy, because whether or not the original accuser is likewise guilty of an offense has no bearing on the truth value of the original accusation.
Certainly seems to be what I see occurring quite often. Maybe I misperceived what I have thought I was reading.

This is exactly what I am talking about.

Anytime your paper or speech begins with.... "According to Websters...."....

The flip side is that we are importing political terms into formal logic.

Do you want that?

Well, I don't want to hear any Democrats complaining about "norms" or "destroying institutions" after those Senate hearings today.

Good grief...

Will anyone defend this?

Republicans denied Garland a vote for nearly a year. With Gorsuch they changed the 60 vote threshold. Now you want to pretend to be upset because the Democrats are rightfully calling out the fact the Kavanaugh’s documents are being withheld? We’re talking about putting someone to the highest court in the land and the Republicans are hiding his documents so people can’t see what he’s said about different rulings. With Kagan’s nomination, 99% of her documents were available 2 weeks prior to the hearing.
How in the world you guys can defend all of that. Spare your crocodile tears.
