I came home on Wednesday a little early and watched the last few minutes of MTP Daily. Chuck Todd mentioned that Mitch Daniels would be a viable candidate at an open convention. I thought it was an extremely odd mention.

No more than 10 minutes later, Mark Halperin on With All Due Respect mentioned Mitch Daniels as a viable candidate at an open convention.

Am I the only one that finds this extremely unlikely? Was this just an MSNBC talking point that day, because I have not seen Daniels floated around like this? I know he put out a statement, but this speculation is coming after that announcement.

Not the first time it has came up, I read an article about it a few days ago, I can't recall where to link it. One of if not the major reason that he ruled it out in the past was the scrutiny that his wife and daughters would have to endure due to past marital problems. With the turmoil involved with the Republican nomination, it will likely continue to be mentioned.

No, because unless they are idiots, Trump and Cruz will band together to make sure the rules are written in such a way that only one of them can be nominated. They have almost all the votes that will make up the rules committee.

"They have almost all the votes that will make up the rules committee."

Does this mean they have the delegates and/or super delegates that make up the rules? Or votes from what else?

I do not like Cruz but think he is more astute politically. I think he can figure that out-setting up the rules to favor him. Trump just seems to have a disorganized ground game and start yelling he will sue people if he does not win.

Anyway, if ti goes to an open convention I see almost no way that Kasich would not win. He is the one candidate that does not make an idiot of himself, has not humiliated any demographic yet, could win Ohio, and does pretty well(better than any other R candidate) in polling versus Democrats. Just more stable than the other options and that is what the R party needs right now.

Seriously? The delegates have to approve the rules. The rules committee, and all committees are made up of delegates. Kasich won't qualify for nomination unless Trump and Cruz delegates change the rules to make him qualify and why would they do that?

Kasich has NO shot and neither does Mitch Daniels. Not going to happen with what some Hoosiers call MMM.
