Boiler fans want to Win so bad, we want CJB to get us to 7 or more wins this season coming up, first we have to crawl out of the Sink hole we have been in as of late. There is no doubt that we have the right Coach in place to get us where we want to go, it just may not happen This year, but it will happen!! A little more patience on top of the patience Boiler fans have displayed already....It's gonna happen!
I mean.....no offense to anyone here, but saying "There is no doubt that we have the right coach to get us where want to go" is a pretty weak comment to make less than 2 months into a coaching tenure.
With Purdue's current state, I wouldn't be certain about ANY coach. Do I think we can get to the 6, 7 wins with a variety of coaches? Sure.
But look at a team like Minnesota - they were not good last year and still finished with 9 wins!
Minnesota had 8 regular season wins - ONE of which had a winning regular season record (Colorado State - with 7 wins). The combined record of the teams they had their 8 wins against was 36-62.
Now, would I take Minnesota's season over Purdue's season? Absolutely 100%. But the point is - the Big Ten has had a pretty sharp drop off in the quality of teams after the top tier over the past several years really - and yes, we were that bad. But it wouldn't take much improvement to get to that 6, 7 wins. We were competitive against some of these other non-top tier Big Ten teams, just didn't win.
And this harkens back to Tiller/Hope where we were beating crappy teams, but not doing anything else basically and rarely even being competitive with good teams. While again that's an improvement to where we're at, I think the goal is to get a coach who can improve our standing to beat lower tier Big Ten teams regularly, but also a coach who can make us competitive nationally, not just against losing teams. There's no guarantee on that with any coach you get - and I think Brohm is on the right track to get us to that 5, 6 or 7 win mark against bad teams - but there's a lot of work to be done to get Purdue to being competitive against more than just bad teams.
