Highly recruited, a player with the attributes you want physically if you’re gonna beat a team like ND… a player who is supposed to be the primary threat once bell leaves.. but man, it might be time to go to Thompson there. The mental lapses and drops are just brutal.

I haven't seen what Thompson can do yet. But I like what I've seen out of Mershawn Rice. Hopefully we'll see this take care of itself over the next few games.

I'm guessing Wright knows the playbook better than Rice and Thompson at this point and that's why he's out there as much as he is. Those 2 drops, like Brees said, you just can't have if ur Purdue trying to win the game. Rice is looking pretty good from the limited action I've seen. Maybe he makes the jump to #2.

Fyi: I did see Yaseen (#2) dressed yesterday.

I thought the left receiver was more of a speed position? Are they both the same?

Wright drops more balls right in his hands or chest than guys I knew who were sent to the defense in high school cause they just couldn’t catch

I read something in the pre season that Rice knows the playbook as good or better than any receiver on the team except maybe Bell. In the limited action I’ve seen, Rice is capable of being the #2 receiver

Wouldn't be surprised if thats the case. Coach Sheppard doesn't seem like the kind of guy who puts up with the dropsies. That being said, Wright may be forced to start with Bell potentially out.

Yeah I hope so but man I was expecting big things from Wright and it seems he’s regressed
The homework is easy. Thompson’s FRESHMAN and sophomore yr at Marshall, up until he got hurt the 3rd Game, he lead the WRs in YPG, YAC and had the highest catch % just to name a few intangibles …. Posted as fall camps offensive player, yet only 6 Targets- 5 catches and O drops so far as a BoilerMaker.

I'm guessing you're related to Thompson? Otherwise you may have an unhealthy obsession...

How many of these guys have played meaningful minutes in a hostile environment like ND against a good defense? Not giving a Total pass, but some understanding. It looked like we had a few pros on D and Bell on O. Nobody who could play in the pros as of right now.

ND looked like they had a few guys on D and a few guys on O who had a chance.

I think a few of our WR’s could be solid big 10 guys but I’m not sold in them yet. Still a lot of developing to be done.

also, a running game would really help the passing game. The DB’s aren’t even worried about it and are teeing off on our wideouts.

If I was him I’d expect there would be some politics based on recruiting .. you want to have the guy who was a four star with an alabama offer and who has the talent to make one think that he will be the heir to bell’s throne be the guy …

but it’s getting to a point where I’d expect he gets more come his way. He meaning Thompson .. just an impressive heady player. Is he Milton Wright physically? No. But if you go back and look at highlights from 3 years ago he actually compares favorably physically to a guy named TERRY Wright who was there before Milton

Definitely agree on having a run game, that sets up the play action for big plays down field .

totally agree
Dropsies are a killer. He’s got to increase the catching percentages even in tight windows.
Will add that our secondary needs to finesse the grabbing and holding against good teams as well. If ND does it and gets away with it, that is a sign to game on!

Folks, I was a professional athlete for 20plus years. I played in every environment possible and as a player that NEVER mattered to me.
So in saying that, I’ve prepared my bloodline for any environment or Level of play wether it’s the Big Ten or any other level.
I’m a firm believer in when given the opportunity do your job, there’s NO exception and that goes for my bloodline as well and it’s very understood around these parts…

It’s more than that. At pass happy Purdue we have always needed a run game for those times when teams drop back into coverage and dare us to run. Against the more physical power programs we have usually failed by having weak offensive linemen who can’t get a push and therefore a team like notre dame can stop the run with very little attention.

I couldn’t agree more, the Run Game is a vital part of the success of all major programs. The OL has to continue to get better and they will and when that happens the program will be able to play consistently at a high level.

They need new OL. The ones they have now save Hartwig will not be part of an OL that can move a defensive line like NDs

Bell could play on Saturday, but is not likely. Rice is out indefinitely with his foot, so he probably out for most of the year. It seems like he has had the injury bug every year, since he arrived on campus. Milton has the physical attributes to be a great receiver, but he has a hands problem. He makes that TD catch with a player draped on him, and he drops the easier passes. He has been consistent with that.

We need someone to step up, like Yaseen or Burks. I have a question on Sullivan. He put up video game numbers in high school in Texas, but I have not heard anything about him, since he arrived on campus. Where does he stand?

I think he stands on the sideline during the game...😂

I believe Broc and Milton will step up their games on Saturday. Anthrop and Durham will get some catches with RAC over the middle without a Kyle Hamilton on the field for the Illini.

A lot of praise for Wrights work ethic in the recent G&B interviews. Great to hear. Sounds like it could really click. Hopefully, it does and soon.
From everything I've ever read about Wright, he is about as good a person as you'll find. Unfortunately, my memories of his thus far is more about catches he didn't make than ones he did. Think he dropped a big one against Nevada that might have been instrumental in that loss. Another against IU in the last Bucket game that might have put us in position to win. Then Oregon State and Notre Dame this season. I don't know if having "good hands" is something you can learn and improve on. It strikes me as something either a player has or doesn't have but I've never played WR, let alone at a D-1 level. Cheering for Wright to get it figured out but, like mentioned here, we have other players that are capable as well.

I wish he had dropped it. He caught it, then fumbled, they recovered and it was literally a game-changing play.
Yeah that's what I'm thinking of. I have to go back and look at it to refresh my memory on how that went down.

JaMarcus mentioned Mahoungou and Phillips as previous guys he's worked with to cure the drops and said Wright doesn't have that far to go.

Side note: For those who complain about Brohm playing interview responses close to the vest, Jamarcus and Barclay are generally fairly straight shooters when asked about their guys.

He’s trying to be a pro. Ask pro coaches how any of that works if you’re dropping passes
Perhaps he wants to be a Pro DB, where there is little emphasis on catching the ball? That's usually the route that receivers take, when they can't catch.

The balls that he is not catching are starting to to make me think that he has a vision/depth perception issue.....
Im sure that the team fully tests it`s players but WRIGHT.......Your Killing us!!!
It may be as simple as him taking his eye off the ball as it gets close to his hands, so he can locate & avoid the closest defender. It could be an aversion to being hit or he could be looking for an opening, so he can make a big play.

It may be a vision problem or it could be a focus problem. He's shown that he can make the circus catches (TD at ND), but catching only 3 of the 9 balls thrown to him is NOT going to cut it.

I hope he figures it out SOON!

hope you're not counting the one Plummer threw at his ankles while sliding down in the 4th quarter.

I think he will .. other than just catching the football he’s everything you want in a speed receiver
